Dazai and I spent the rest of the night lost in conversation and downing about three pots of coffee just by ourselves... By the end of it, I have managed to laugh, cry, and everything in between. As the sun breaks the horizon of the sleeping city, we collectively look out the window and realize we've just how long we've been talking. A small smile spreads gently across my face. I'm not even tired...

Then, we hear the jingle of keys coming from the back door. We both whip around to look at each other, eyes wide. We stayed all the way to the morning shift! I can't let the boss catch us! We both rush to grab our coats and shoes, and I wake Creed up from his nap in the corner, shaking him hurriedly. We slip silently out of the front door, locking it behind us, and get out just in time. As we sprint out of view from the front windows, the boss simultaneously walks up to the counter. He never noticed a thing... except for the coffee pot which was still hot.

We sprint all the way down the block, overcome with a fit of giggles and Creed barking happily as he chases after us. I haven't had this much fun since I can't remember when. A smile stays plastered across my face the entire time Dazai walks me back to my apartment.

Dazai walks me all the way into my room, stepping just into the doorway. He bends down and scratches Creed's head before turning to leave. But he stops before crossing the frame.

"Kagami?" Dazai says without turning around. He's scratching the back of his neck nervously. I've never seen Dazai nervous before.

"What's up?"

"I think I love you.." with that, he slowly looks back at me over his shoulder.

Is that a blush I see forming on his cheeks?

I look down at my feet. Now my face is starting to feel hot too... Finally getting the courage to look Dazai in the eyes, I say, "I love you too." I watch as his shoulders relax and a grin spreads across his face. Before I know it, I'm smiling too.

He turns to walk out for real this time, but I stop him for a second saying, "But I'm still not going to commit a double suicide with you, so don't get any ideas." I can't help but laugh.

A chuckle escapes Dazai's mouth too as he closes the door, "Good, I don't want you to." Shaking his head, he shuts the door and is gone.

I stand there, awestricken, giddy as a child on Christmas morning. My cheeks hurt from smiling for so long. When I finally get showered and lay down in bed, I sleep better than I ever have, despite the noon sun shining through my curtains.

-------------------------------------------Time skip to a couple days later------------------------------------

Creed and I are casually walking back home from drawing at the park when he suddenly stops in front of me. I bump into him, dropping my sketchbook and all my pencils onto the cement.

"What was that for?" I ask as I crouch down to pick up all my belongings off the ground. But as I reach for my last pencil, I notice something. A deep red stain on the ground. Blood. My heart rate begins to speed up as my eyes follow the trail leading toward the fountain just ahead of me. I stuff my things back into my back and rush to see what's happened. A scream escapes my mouth at the sight. There are more than twenty people here, strewn across the pavement and covered in blood.

What the hell happened here?

As my eyes trail over the scene, it only gets worse. I can't tell which ones are alive and which ones are dead. Creed makes his way through the carnage, sniffing for any possible survivors. In the corner of my I see a shakey hand rise into the air. When I turn to see who it is, my heart stops.

Atsushi.

I run over to his body, Creed right at my heels.

"Atsushi! Oh my gosh, are you okay? What happened? What do I do?" My brain is spinning. No amount of physical training with Kunikida could have prepared me to see such a horrific sight.

"They took her. They took Kyoka." Is all he manages to get out before he goes cold.

No. I'm not losing him. Never again. I call the only person I can think to call in this situation and put the phone on speaker. While it rings, I rip off a sleeve of my sweatshirt and use it as a makeshift tourniquet to tie Atsushi's wounds shut as best I can. Then I move on to Kunikida and Kenji, whom I also found on the ground.

Finally, Dazai picks up.

"Dazai," I say shakily, trying not to cry. "Dazai, I need help. I don't know what happened. Atsushi, Kunikida, and Kenji. They're all down. And there's this lady with pink hair. They're really hurt Dazai."

"Ok. Listen to me," his voice trails calmly from the phone's speakers, "look around you. Can you tell me where you are?"

"I was just walking home from the park like usual," I look around, "All I see is this big fountain."

"Stay where you are. I'll be right there," and then he hangs up.

Please hurry Dazai, I think, as tears begin to prick the corners of my eyes.
