Kenji...
Blaze Phoenix was ready, but I wasn't. At least I thought I wasn't, but then it was proved after my test run that I was hopeless.
Sho had instructed me to do a bunnyhop, the easiest move. I took a fine lift with the help of the ramp, I felt like I was flying, then realised that I have to land, landed with the first tire, the bike bounced up and Makoto, Kakeru and Sho closed their eyes, few seconds later I was recovered from under the bike. My knees and elbows were scraped, the bike was tough, but slight damage was visible. Sho said I must buy guards, Makoto however said I should wrap myself with rubber to protect myself. Sho was right, but I had no clue how to ask Mom for the money.
When we reached home Makoto spent a lot of time searching for Kyoichi's old gear, after hours of search we realized that it couldn't possibly be there. Makoto gathered all her guts and went inside Kyoichi's room, while I eavesdropped from outside.
The room was lit by a mere 40 watt table lamp, Kyoichi was sitting on the chair placed in front of the balcony, he continued staring outside when I peeped and saw Makoto pushing her index fingers against each other." Uh.... Kyoichi...you see.." before Makoto could finish, brother interrupted " The gear's on the bed. I want this clearly understood, that the entire period of training sessions I will be watching him. Is that understood ?"
"Understood" replied Makoto unhesitant about her answer. She slowly went, picked up the box, walked back towards the door. Before she could come out, brother said " and Makoto...make sure you carry a first aid kit, something tells me, there will be more wounds. After all he is starting from scratch." Makoto nodded her head and left.
Next day....
The day was a Saturday, I was supposed sleep till 10:00am, peaceful sleep, but my hopes came crashing down when Makoto woke me at 5:00am and dragged me to the 'X Zone '. The sun had just risen, I found Kakeru standing beside Blaze Phoenix but Sho was nowhere to be seen. After I was dragged till Kakeru, Makoto then went towards the box full of guards. The content in the box was second hand but shone as brightly as knew, which made me realize that my brother took well care of his things and I'd rather not misuse his possessions.
I soon saw my brother standing on top of a big rock with his arms folded, wearing his usual riding gear and beside him shone another MTB, Thunder Emperor. He stood their exactly like he had told Makoto watching but not showing much reactions while I stared. In this while Sho came in with a toast in his mouth, he was at top speed, I thought he was going to crash, but instead he took a fine bunnyhop and landed surprising us all. Makoto then helped wear all the guards and pads.
I was given rookie helmet, it was yellow in colour and it only covered the head. Golden Yellow was a good colour, but not my colour. My colour was crimson from that day, but I adjusted. I was soon covered with tight fitted guards, my gloves were black but at the wrist it had red. I had worn black trousers underneath them, covering my bandaged knee was a pair of knee guards. The elbow guards were long and started exactly as my blue half-jacket with a hood ended. The guards were tight, hard and uncomfortable but I realized that they were for my best. I felt like wearing shackles but Makoto, Sho, Kakeru and Kyoichi looked comfortable.
" How come I get the tight fitted, uncomfortable guards, while you all get the comfort ones?" I asked.
Makoto had probably been staring at me and thinking the same thing, her answer was ready, so she immediately answered " Those are the Rookie's gear, tight and powerful, able to protect you from a huge hit... while what Kyoichi wears is master gear, comfortable, protects the parts but not as powerful as the ones you are wearing..."
" So you aren't a master either.. Why do you get the comfortable ones?" I replied sternly
" They aren't master gear.. I've just adapted to the guards" Makoto replied. " Let's get started..." said Kakeru
I was trained for 5 hours. Sho instructed me, Makoto screamed at me and Kakeru modified the bike according to my body. After falling number of times I mastered the Bunnyhop, not perfectly, though. Makoto then suggested that we should go home for breakfast, bath and lunch. The boys were astounded that I hadn't had my breakfast, they agreed to meet at evening 5'o'clock, sharp, after lunch. We headed home, but when I looked back I saw Kyoichi still standing there, watching Sho train in the course. He seemed particularly interested in seeing Sho doing one of the hardest moves, jagnite turn, Sho wasn't able to do it but he continued trying, alone. Kakeru, Makoto and I spoke comparing my skills with Gabu's, which honestly wasn't very helping.
