One-Sided Love

My heart aches with a love that's unreturned,
A flame that burns, but never learned
To light the way for two hearts to unite,
For it is a one-sided love, a lonely plight.

I watch from afar, as you go on with your life,
Longing for a chance to be by your side,
But you see me not, nor do you know,
The depth of love that I wish to show.

My heart beats for you, a constant drum,
A melody that plays for only one,
And though my love is strong and true,
It is a love that's unrequited, a sad debut.

I see you smile, and it fills me with hope,
But deep down, I know that I cannot cope
With a love that's doomed from the start,
A one-sided love that breaks my heart.

So I'll keep my love hidden, a secret kept,
And live with the pain of my heart's unkept,
For a love that's one-sided is a sorrowful thing,
A dream that fades, a song that cannot sing.
