Smiling through the weight

She walks through life with a smile so bright,
But deep down she's carrying a heavy weight.
The oldest child in a middle-class home,
With responsibilities she can't escape.

She longs for freedom and independence,
But restrictions hold her back each day.
She works hard to build a better life,
But others judge and try to tear her away.

"Childish" they say, and "naive" too,
As they talk behind her back with ease.
But she knows more than they can see,
With experience that she's earned with ease.

She keeps her chin up, even through the pain,
And smiles through the anxiety and the fear.
For deep down she knows her own worth,
And that knowledge helps her persevere.

So let them judge and let them talk,
She'll keep on shining through it all.
For she knows the truth of who she is,
And that knowledge will never fall.
