The Confession Unheard

She confessed her love to him,
He said he wasn't ready for commitment.
But she was content to have him close,
To have his heart with her as an adornment.

They spent time together,
Laughing and talking for hours on end.
She knew he had a girlfriend,
But she couldn't resist the draw of her friend.

She loved him with all her heart,
But he could not give her his all.
She tried to be patient and understanding,
Even when he would sometimes fall.

But deep inside she knew the truth,
That he was not hers alone.
He had another who had his heart,
And she was but a temporary loan.

He kept their secret hidden,
Not telling even his closest friends.
Their love was a taboo to the world,
A love that had no means or ends.

She wished he could see what she saw,
The depth of her love and care.
But he was content with the surface,
And so their love could go nowhere.

So she carried on with a broken heart,
And they continued their secret affair.
A love that was never meant to be,
A love that nobody could bear.
