Ominis had padded out quickly but left the door wide open, leaving no room for argument.
Sebastian's chest was still heaving as he turned back to me, grinned sheepishly and holding his hand out to grab mine.
"We'll pick this up later?"
Stepping closer I touched the toes of my boots to his, running my free hand up to his face and wiping the last remains of salted streaks from his cheeks with the tips of my fingers.
"I hope so." I was surprised with my own boldness.
Sebastian grinned and placed a kiss to the inside of my palm.
The common room outside was still dark as ever, drums and strings thrumming through the air and students were passing around more goblets near the fireplace. The couches and seats we had been sitting on had been pushed back even farther and miscellaneous chairs had been scraped up alongside them. A few large pillows had been thrown to the ground in the spaces between - creating a large circle.
Lucan waved us over happily only to have a rather large hand pressed against his shoulder.
"Seventh years only kid. Go play some exploding snap or something." I glared at the boy in the ridiculous outfit. Lee Aster.
Lucan looked crushed, ducking his head and turning away.
"Just when I thought I couldn't hate you more." Sebastian sneered.
"Oh boohoo Sallow. Rules are rules."
My blood boiled but Sebastian squeezed my hand and shook his head.
"He's not worth it."
I begrudgingly unclenched my fist and followed him to the couch, sitting beside Ominis and Sebastian beside me.
"Let's get these games started eh?"
My anger quickly subsided upon seeing the scraggly haired Garreth standing atop a small chest, still draped in black cloths.
He clapped his hands together and pulled one of the large black rags back to reveal a handful of shiny potion bottles like a used pocket-watch salesman. He touched each one before frowning.
"If you're looking for the little clear potion, I've taken the liberty of distributing it already." Lee barked from his rickety wood chair, sitting sideways, one leg hanging over the arm.
Garreth's smile dropped. "Distributed it?"
Lee rolled his eyes and swung his head to the rest of the circle where the remaining 7th years had taken their places. I recognized a few from each house but couldn't find Natty, Marlene or Poppy. My heart dropped slightly.
"I would just like you all to know that your lovely drinks included a special ingredient... a little truth serum potion curtesy of our potions master here. Just to make things a little more... fun." Lee giggled.
"Whoah man, that was supposed to be voluntary only." Garreth had dropped his arms, looking defeated. "Not cool."
"How do we know you're not lying about putting it in the drinks?" Someone called from the far edge of the circle.
Lee rolled his eyes and head around dramatically before his gaze landed on the three of us on the couch. He smirked.
"Oi Sallow, why don't you tell everyone how you really feel about me."
"I'd beat you unconscious given the chance."
Lee kept grinning but Ominis only huffed. "He would tell you that even if he wasn't drugged."
