Ominis began to yawn a few songs later and Sebastian was essentially falling asleep on his feet. I sent them off to bed but Sebastian caught my hand before stepping across the threshold. Ominis shook his head and continued out of the Undercroft on his own.
"I'm so sorry we didn't get to explore Feldcroft as I'd said we would." He kept his eyes on our boots. "I was thinking perhaps just you and I could go back on our own, take all the time we need?"
"That sounds wonderful." I smiled but he continued to stare towards the ground. "It's really ok Sebastian, I promise. Anne was more important."
His eyes were back on mine and a glint shimmered behind them.
"You liked her didn't you? I knew you would! She loved you. I- I haven't seen her so happy in... awhile."
"I really did - she's quite something. Reminds me a lot of you."
Sebastian quirked his head but blinked his eyes sleepily. "How so?"
"Why don't you go to bed and we can talk all about it tomorrow." I tapped his chest with the tip of my finger and his cheeks blushed as his lips lifted.
"Promise?"
"Promise."
I expected him to wish me goodnight and step out of the room but instead he wrapped me in a deep hug. "Thank you Atley." Voice a whisper. "She needed that."
So did you.
----
I met up with Sebastian and Ominis first thing after breakfast, chatting excitedly on one of the benches just outside the hall. I was glad to see both of their faces looked incredibly refreshed, the dark circles under Sebastian's eyes faded slightly - thankfully it seemed he had actually slept.
"There you are." Professor Weasley's boots clicked up quickly and I jumped in my seat. "I was hoping to speak to you last night Miss Barlowe, but after you returned, it looked as if sleep was of more importance." She smiled slightly but then her expression turned serious. "Could I speak with you a moment in private?" She motioned towards the far wall, walking quickly and expecting me to follow. Sebastian gave me a curious glance but nodded as I got up, silently communicating that he and Ominis would wait for me.
"Miss Barlowe, if I understand correctly, you have been missing a decent amount of classes recently." My blood froze in place. "Now, I know a fair number of those have been under specific circumstances," She eyed the boys. "but I cannot go against prior precedents set in place for the other students, you understand." I nodded, dreading what was to come. "I'm sorry to say, but I am going to have to issue you a detention Miss Barlowe. You cannot be missing so many classes. I'm rather disappointed."
I hung my head, cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "Yes professor."
"I understand Mr. Sallow has missed a number of classes as well. If his absences have been marked correctly, he is teetering on the edge of another detention as well. Perhaps it would do him well for you to warn him." She crossed her hands behind her back. "I will see you for your detention tomorrow night after dinner Miss Barlowe. Nine pm sharp." With a nod, she bid me good day and turned to leave.
I drug my feet back over to the boys and Sebastian leaned back from whispering something to Ominis, glancing at me with worried eyes.
I held my hands out and then flopped them down to my sides.
"Looks like I've got detention tomorrow night."
Ominis' brows furrowed. "You have detention? What in Merlin's name did you do?"
