A dull ache lapped at the edge of my bones, at the back of my vision, just under my skin. The familiar ache and prickle of ancient magic sat atop my chest and begged me to move forward, to touch the book, to tease the papers and grasp the potential. It was a strange feeling, being so close to this presence of power that tugged at the shattered bits of itself within me, wrenching me high into the air above my own consciousness. Though, the familiar voices of Ominis and Sebastian kept me tethered to the ground, if only by a hair.
Sebastian had tucked the sack of left shoes deep within my bag with a few forceful shoves. I was sure I had heard a few of them tumble out one by one but he simply looped his arm through mine and smiled sheepishly. Ominis held tightly to my shoulder and though it felt almost like fire in my blood, I'd raised my hand to the floating pages.
Breaths caught.
Bodies swallowed whole,
pulled into the glowing book.
My first thought had been sprawled on the pages, ink to parchment.
My first glimpse had been Sebastian.
Or rather the sketch of him.
Freckles and all, his cheekbones carved through the white - sketched in sharp shades of grey and black.
Bits of drawn ash flecks scattered the white space around us,
above,
ahead,
behind,
below.
Our bodies etched as if drawn with quill and ink to paper, our skin now small lines and hatches, our clothes now splotches of ink.
"Holy shit." Sebastian's lips moved much as I knew them in our own reality, yet this one with far little familiarity.
"What is it?" Ominis' fingers dug deep into the fabric at my shoulder and I marveled at the way it felt. A stubborn pressure yet not quite the correct weight of fingertips to skin.
The light around us felt an odd sort of welcoming, something to be yearned for.
"It's... it's like we stepped into the pages of Sebastian's sketchbook. Our bodies and... everything floating around us... looks drawn... the rest is just all white."
Tattered and half completed yet vibrant with life in black and white.
Sebastian's eyes caught mine, glinting deep and dark.
My heart sparked, no longer envious of the light.
His thumb rubbed along my forearm, shifting the fabric there.
"Does it feel odd to anyone else?"
"Yes."
"I do in fact feel a bit uneasy to be honest." Ominis mumbled to his boots.
Sebastian's eyes flicked to my lips, his mind wandered aloud.
"I wonder what kissing feels like here."
I could feel my cheeks blush but my mind knew it to only be a shade of deep grey.
Ominis groaned. "This is not the time for snogging Sebastian."
He winked to me before stepping around my chest and reaching for Ominis' shirt.
"Come here Ominis! Let me try!"
"I swear to Merlin, Sebastian!"
Ominis had managed to shove both of his hands against Sebastian's collarbones, holding him away as best he could.
