(Softcore - The Neighbourhood)
Sebastian's body went rigid, one hand instinctually dipping across my chest and pulling me behind his body while the other dove into his pocket, undoubtedly clinging to the relic.
"Ominis..." His voice ever so strangled, ever so irritated, tone striking me in a way I'd never heard from him before.
"The sounds I kept hearing..." My mouth wandered through my thoughts, lips tripping over what I'd deemed reality. "... the foggy figure... that was you."
"You gave me no choice- I had to follow you." His fists clenched at his sides, knuckles white, blank stare slicing the air. The serpent speech latched out at our breaths, slithering around our necks. "I can't believe you two. -Leave the relic... I shall not say it again."
Sebastian's shoulders righted, his chest dipped as if someone had thrown a punch to his stomach. "Ominis.... I'm sorry, but I am taking it-"
"No, you're not! If you won't put it back, than I will." Ominis' boots shuffled a step closer.
Sebastian's arm dropped from across my chest, knuckles now clenched around his wand as he too stepped forward. His jaw clenched and the air stripped raw.
I pulled my mind back to my body, shoving my way between both of their chests and placing a hand on either one.
"Hold on now. Both of you." My eyes flicked back to Sebastian who was glaring down at my fingertips atop Ominis' robes. "Sebastian... please... take a step back."
His eyes traced back up to mine and the fire that burned behind them flickered a moment, tracing the outlines of my heart, the micro expressions etched into my brows.
Ominis' chest was heaving gently beneath my touch now, shaky but firm, no doubt feeling the anger that clung to our skin.
The moments felt like minutes until Sebastian took a half a step away, eyes never leaving mine. "Fine, but Ominis knows - I won't step back from a fight."
My mouth felt dry. "Even against your best friend?"
His eyes flicked back to Ominis, red rimming his bottom lashes. "Yes."
Ominis' body pressed further into my hand and in turn, I pushed him back gently.
"Enough. Ominis, Sebastian has done his research... He knows what he is doing. We've been wary, assessing the risks-"
"The risks, are far greater than I'm sure he's let on. They always are with the Dark Arts. You should know from last time." Ominis snipped and I dropped my hand, instinctually fearing the venom I never wished to taste.
He snapped his mouth shut, brows softening before parting his lips to speak again.
Sebastian was at my back again.
"That is not fair Ominis, we had no choice- Atley offered-"
"And you are the reason we were in that mess to begin with. I do not much care that she willingly allowed you to cast the curse on her... you hurt her Sebastian."
The silence felt sharper than a knife.
Ominis continued, quieter now, bottom lip trembling between words. "Your intentions have always been far greater than any of us deserve... but your actions-" He cut himself off, nostrils twitching a moment as he swallowed. "You need to stop this. Now."
