The summer was just about to start and I was on my way to Sam, who lived three houses away from me. Sam had been my best friend for many years. Without knocking, I went in and saw his mom who was sitting in the living room.

“Sam? Are you coming or what?“ I shouted.

“Maybe he’s sleeping, the first day of summer you know.” His mom said and laughed. I joined in the laughter and went up the stairs to his room. I didn´t knock, just went inside. He wasn´t asleep, luckily, but sat by the mirror and fixed his hair, typical Sam.

“Hey, hurry.” I said and giggled.

“Hey Jess. Yeah I’m almost finished…“ He said concentrated. He took his cellphone from the bed and gave me a quick hug. We then went down and said goodbye to his mom before we got in the car and drove towards the beach.

“So, is Kian coming?” I asked.

“Of course he is, you’re supposed to be there. Nice dress you have by the way.“ I had a royal blue dress that was pretty simple and went down to mid-thigh, but I liked it.

“Thanks Sam.” I smiled.

“I see how happy you get when you are going to meet Kian.” He smirked at me. I had known Kian almost as long as I’ve known Sam, and we had always been very good friends. But lately it had been transferred to other feelings. But I didn´t know how Kian felt about me. But Sam wanted us to get together.

“I´m going to ask him today, what he thinks of you.”

“Haha, you´re sweet.” We arrived at the parking lot and jumped out of the car. I saw Kian stand a little further away, scrolling on his phone, as usual. Or maybe he filmed something to his and Sam’s youtube channel. They had become pretty famous in the past year. I had chosen to keep out, but had been in a few videos.

“Ey Kian!” Cried Sam and Kian looked up from his phone. It took a minute before he started walking towards us. He smiled wide.

“Hi, what´s up?“ He asked and hugged me. I got butterflies in my stomach. Our hug was never like a normal friend hug because they always lasted a little longer. Sam smirked at me. I smirked back and we started walking towards the volleyball nets. I saw several of our friends and they waved at us happily. The boys immediately began to play while I sat down to watch.

“Hey Jess!” Cassandra said and smiled. She stood up and gave me a hug.

“Hi. Are you going to play or what? “

“Yeah of course, you ?”

“I’ll wait a bit, then I´ll play!” She smiled and walked towards the net. Her flowing blond hair reached down to her waist, I had always been jealous of her hair.

I sat down with the others and watched the game. Every time the boys played there was always a bunch of girls standing or sitting around the nets, mostly because all the guys looked very good, and was very good at volleyball. I lay down and enjoyed the sun’s scorching rays.

After an hour of playing and several changes of players, Sam came and sat next to me.

“Won´t you play?” He asked and wiped the sweat off his forehead.

“Well, maybe soon.”

“Kian mentioned that you looked very good today.” He said and smiled.

“Oh.” I said and felt my cheeks heat.

“But come on then Jessie, go for it!” He said encouraging.

“Actually, Kian and I are hanging out later today, he asked yesterday if I wanted to come over to his house.” Sam smiled broadly.
