It was a few days after the coven ambush in Latissa, and Eda couldn't be happier. Earlier, that day finished signing the paperwork officially, allowing her to adopt Luz and King into the Clawthorn family. To celebrate, Eda decided to take the two titans to the slay ground for a day of fun. Eda sat on one of the benches as she watched Luz and King run around together, playing a game of tag. At the moment, King was it and was trying his hardest to catch Luz only for her to jump to the side every time King got close.

During one of King's attempts to catch Luz, he tripped over his own feet and fell stomach first. After a few seconds of lying on the ground, King sat himself up, put his face in his paws, and started crying. Worried that King was hurt, Luz walked over to check on him only for her to get jumped and tackled to the ground. Laughing King got off of Luz and started to run away from her on all fours. Luz chuckled to herself, got up, and slowly started jogging after her brother to give him a head start. But saddle for Luz, the slay ground was crowded that day, and she lost sight of King.

Worried for his safety, Luz started looking around, trying to find any sign of her brother. During her search, Luz heard a soft sobbing coming from behind one of the slay ground stairs. Curious Luz made her way toward the back of the stairs and was met with the sight of a little girl with pale skin and brown hair with the first layer in a high ponytail. The girl was curled in on herself with her face buried in her arms. Worried that the girl could be lost or hurt, Luz slowly approached the girl, not wanting to startle her. When Luz was close enough, she sat down next to the girl and gently put one of her paws on the girl's arm. Surprised, the girl lifted her head and turned to Luz, reviling her golden yellow tear-filled eyes. For a moment, the two of them just sat there looking at each other, not knowing what to do next.

Luz tried to be the one to break the silence only for the girl to start gently petting her between her horns. "Your weird-looking dog," the girl said as a small smile started to tug at the corner of her lips. Unsure of what to do, Luz just sat there and let the girl pet her as much as she wanted. "Sorry if my crying bothered you, I just couldn't keep it in any longer," said the girl as she removed her hand from Luz's head. "Yesterday, my parents forced me to stop hanging out with my best friend," said the girl as she curled in on herself again as if trying to hide from someone.

After hearing that, Luz felt sorry for the girl and wanted to cheer her up. While she was thinking of ideas, she heard a familiar melody coming from the other side of the slay ground. Looking over in that direction, Luz saw the same bard group that she saw on her first day in Bonesborough. Luz remembered seeing them around the city a few times while helping Eda with some errands or her human treasure stand after her first encounter. Upon seeing them, Luz realized that they had the answer to her problem.

With a plan in mind, Luz stood up, gently took the girl's hands in her paws, and helped the girl to get back up on her feet. At first, the girl just stared at Luz with a mixture of surprise and curiosity. Once the girl was at her full height, Luz noticed that the girl was haft a head tall than her and was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt with a dark purple skirt. Still, hand in hand, Luz led the girl toward the band that was playing a lively upbeat melody and making balls of light. Letting go of the girl's hand, Luz reached and placed her hand under one of the balls and guided it to be in front of the girl. "In a story, I read to my brother, it said that if you make a wish on a ball of light and lifted it into the sky, it will carry that wish to the stars and make it come true," said Luz as she offered the ball to the girl.

With a surprised look on the girl's face, she looked at the ball of light, then at Luz, and then the ball again. For a moment, the girl stood there looking at the light until she finally took it from Luz, closed her eyes, lifted it, and watched it float up into the sky. After the light disappeared, the girl looked to Luz with a smile of gratitude. "Thank you," said the girl as she whipped away the remaining tears from her eyes. "I'm Luz, Luz Clawthorn," Luz said as she extended her right paw toward the girl. For a moment, the girl just looked at the paw and hesitated for a second before reaching for it.

"Amity!" called a voice that startled the girl and made her pull her hand away from Luz's paw. Looking in the direction of the voice, the two of them saw a woman wearing a purple long-sleeve shirt, with a white vest and black pants approach them. When Luz took a closer look at the woman's facial features, she noticed that she had pale skin, light green hair, blue eyes, and a stern look. When the woman got close, she grabbed the girl's, now known as Amity, arm and pulled her away from Luz while using her foot to push the titan away from the two of them. "What have I told you about playing with stray animals," said the woman as she looked at Luz with disgust.

"I was just trying to cheer her up," Luz calmly explained, trying not to aggravate the woman any further, but instead, the woman just pulled Amity behind her and started walking towards Luz. The woman was about to say something but was stopped when Eda stepped in between them with King in one arm. "You have a problem with my daughter, Odalia," said Eda as she stared at the woman with a death glare. The woman known as Odalia quickly stepped away from Eda with a look of shock that changed into a calm expression once she was in front of Amity again.

"Eda Clawthorn, I should have known you were razing animals now," Odalia said as she took Amity's hand and started to walk away. But Eda wasn't going to let Odalia have the last words, but before she could say anything, King beat her to it. "Rotin party pooper!" called out King excitedly like he won a prize as he pointed at Odalia. In that instant, Odalia turned around and glared at King while Eda let out her signature snort-laugh, and Luz covered her mouth in an attempt not to laugh the same as Amity and the others that gathered around.

With a huff, Odalia turned back around and walked away, pulling Amity with her. With the two of them gone, Eda turned to Luz and knelt down in front of her. "Are you ok, kid?" Eda asked as she looked Luz over to make sure she was ok. "I'm fine. Who was that lady, and how do you know her?" asked Luz as she gestured towards the direction Odalia and Amity went. "That was Odalia Blight, and we used to go to the same school," Eda said as she picked up Luz and stood back up. "And I don't want you dealing with her she is nothing but trouble," said Eda as she walked away from the slay ground.

For a moment, Luz just stayed quiet and looked at her paws as Eda carried her and King through Bonesborough. "I just wanted to help that Amity girl," Luz finally said. "I know that kid, but sometimes helping people doesn't always lead to good things," said Eda as she explained how even good intentions could go south. "I don't understand. How can good things lead to bad things?" asked Luz as she looked up at Eda. "You'll find out when you're older," said Eda as she left the city limits and started heading back home to the Owl House.

(P.S. Sorry for the wait. I had a small case of writer's block. I'll try to do better at uploading chapters in the future.)
