Four years had passed since that night in the human realm and things in the Owl House couldn't be any better. Eda stopped avoiding Luz and King and began to open up to them again, but she still didn't give Luz any details about her curse. At first, Luz tried to get more information out of Eda but stopped when she promised to tell her the whole story when she and King were older. Holding Eda to that promise, Luz focused on practicing with her power whenever she was free from home school, King's campaigns, and helping Eda with her businesses. And just like that the days flew by faster than Eda could run away from the guards, but most of those days were more chaotic than peaceful.
On such day the sun was shining, the demon birds were screaming, and the cover scouts were chasing a mysterious shadow that tied all their cloaks together. "Freeze in the name of the Emperor!" yelled one of the scouts as they turned a corner struggling to keep up with the figure. The shadow was a nimble person who was able to weave their way through the crowds and around the various stalls and stands with ease, but they ran out of luck when they turned a corner in an alleyway only to learn that it led to a dead end. "We got you now," said one of the scouts as they caught up to the shadow and pointed their spires at the figure.
With no other choice, the figure turned around, revealing itself to be a dog-looking demon, three and a half feet tall, with dark brown fur, a canine-like skull head, a pair of horns, and had on a violet hoodie. After the scouts got a good look at the demon they instantly recognized who they were. "Well well, if it isn't Luz the Hellhound," one of the scouts said addressing Luz by the nickname that the Emperor's coven gave her. "The one and only, but I have errands to run, so if you could please move out of the way I would greatly appreciate it," said Luz as she put her hands together and bowed he head. "Sorry, but you need to come with us," spoke the same scout as they approached Luz.
Taking a step back Luz reached into her hoodie pocket, pulled out a small orb, and threw it onto the ground. Once the orb hit the ground, a big cloud of smock appeared, blinding the scouts and making them cough. When the smock cleared the scouts saw that Luz was nowhere to be seen. "How did she do that?" "Where did she go?" "Now what do we do?" asked the scouts as they looked around the dead end trying to find any trace of Luz. "She must have run past us while we were blinded by the smock. Come on," said the captain, gesturing for them to follow him as he started running out of the alley. With no other leads the scouts followed their captain down and out of the alleyway without realizing that there was a manhole back at the dead end.
Once all the scouts were gone the manhole cover was lifted from underneath and moved to the side. After the cover was moved Luz climbed out, put the cover back on the manhole, and dusted her closed off. "Glad that worked," said Luz before she started to walk away from the dead end. Before leaving the alley Luz had to make sure that the scouts were indeed gone and luckily they were. Once Luz was done checking the surroundings she walked out of the alleyway and started to head in the direction of the library. After about a ten-minute walk the library finally came into view. For a moment Luz just stopped and admired the stained glass window in the center tower that depicted a shooting star. 'No matter how many times I see it it still looks cool' thought Luz as she began to walk towards the library's front doors.
When Luz entered the library she was greeted by the sight of bookshelves filled with stories and books flying through the air in straight lines. After letting the view set in, Luz reached into her hoodie pocket and pulled out a list with the titles of several books. While reading the list Luz started to head into the maze of bookshelves trying to find the books that her mom and brother asked her to get. During that time Luz would look back and forth from the list to the bookshelves hoping that she was in the right one and it was when she was looking down at the list, that she accidentally bumped into someone.
