Two days had passed since the library meet-up on Monday and Luz couldn't wait to see Amity again on the weekends, but for now, Luz was in the marketplace with her family helping Eda with her 'Human Collectibles' stand. The plan was that King would help flag down customers, Eda would distract them by showing off her newest product, and Luz would pick their pockets if they didn't buy anything. Around lunchtime, Eda decided to call it a day before the people realized what the trio was doing.
After using a spell that teleported everything from the stand to a safe place the trio started to make their way through the town stopping at a not-dog stand to grab a bite. While eating the family of three sat down on a nearby bench and counted all the snails, jewelry, and knick-knacks they got for the day, and to Eda's delight they made around 500 snails and had 20 pieces of jewelry and other small random items. "Good job today you two," Eda said as she patted Luz and King between their horns, who both responded with happy giggles as they ate their eighth or tenth not-dogs. As proud as Eda was of her kids she secretly wished they got more so that she could keep up with feeding them.
While eating her not-dog Eda continued thinking of new ways to make more money to keep up with Luz's and King's ever-growing titan-size appetites only to get pulled from her thoughts by a small bard parade. The parades were one of the ways the Bard Coven would advertise themselves and get new members to join them. At first, Eda didn't pay that much attention to them until she spotted someone standing on the parade float among the demons and witches. A witch playing the violin with light mint-green hair with white at the base, medium brown skin, and big round glasses to frame their face.
"Raine?" said Eda in disbelief as she stood up and watched her ex play an upbeat toon like it was second nature. Noticing their mom's behavior and hearing what she said, Luz and King followed her gaze to the witch on the float. "Do you know them or something?" asked King before he took another bite of his not-dog. "Yeah, you could say that," replied Eda as she continued watching the parade as it turned a corner and disappeared out of sight. Looking at the coroner to her mom and back at the corner Luz realized that this was an opportunity to learn more about her mom's 'mysterious past', so with an excited look in her eyes, Luz scarfed down the rest of her not-dog and ran after the parade on all fours.
At first, Eda didn't understand what Luz was doing until she saw the young titan turn at the same corner the parade did. "Luz!" yelled Eda before turning to pick up the bag of coins and King who held on tight to his not-dog to ensure it didn't fall on the ground. After Eda stuffed the bag into her wild mane of hair and had secured King under her arm she ran as fast as her legs could carry her down the street. At first, Eda hoped that it was going to be easy to catch Luz only to be met with the sight of a growing crowd that came to watch the parade as she turned the corner. After letting out a groan of frustration Eda tightened her hold on King and started to push her way through the crowd looking for Luz.
Meanwhile, Luz was having an easy time weaving her way through the legs of the newly formed crowd. As Luz pushed through she could not help but imagine all kinds of scenarios on how her mom and this Raine person know each other. One was the idea that the bard was Eda's long-lost cousin who separated during a storm or other catastrophic event. After coming out of her daydream Luz noticed that the crowd had thinned out and the parade was heading toward a big warehouse. Wanting answers Luz quietly followed the parade into the warehouse trying not to be seen.
After everyone was inside and the doors closed the witch known as Raine bent over put their hands on their knees and started taking deep breaths. "That was terrifying," said Raine as they looked at another witch with a clarinet. "I'll never understand how one of the coven's best bards could have stage fright," said the witch as he cast a spell that made their clarinet glow and then disappear. "I'm just that good," said Raine with a smile as they started themselves up and cast the same spell making their violin disappear as well.
