Chapter 17

Loud laughter booming across the room. The owner was wheezing, her back arched as her head flung backwards. "I can't believe he told you that!" She said in between her fits of laughter. "But again.." She completely stopped laughing in one breath as though it was just an act. "..as he should. A weakling like him should be scared of me." She chuckled darkly, staring at the omega who was sitting across from her.

Junkyu frowned as he looked down at his lap, fiddling with his own hands. It was fun earlier as they were talking about the Park siblings' childhood story, but the fun was gone in an instant. He doesn't like the way the eldest sister called his mate a weakling. His JeongWoo is not a weakling, the man saved him from Dr. Jang.

Rose cleared her throat upon noticing the glum on Junkyu's face. "Anyway, where's that prick? Isn't he supposed to be at home?" She asked the alpha who was standing in attention behind Junkyu. "And why are you here instead of with him?"

Junkyu looked over his shoulder at that and his frown got deeper. JeongWoo went for a business trip, but why his PA didn't tag along? Why Vince there with him?

Vince's gaze nervously went to Junkyu before he casted his eyes down. "Master JeongWoo went to the southern capital, there's a minor incident on the rig. He instructed me to stay with Master Junkyu, to keep him company as he's a bit nervous when Master JeongWoo left this morning."

His answer made Junkyu feel embarrassed. He felt like a child who needs adult supervision when the parents weren't at home. "I-I'm sorry I don't have anything at home. I should order something." He said, trying to divert the topic. He only served tea for the adult guests and juice for Soi so far.

"Nah, no need. You have these." Rose pointed at the row of burnt cakes with her eyes when Junkyu was about to stand up from the stool to get his phone in the bedroom.

"But these—"

"Vince, grab some plates for us." Rose interrupted the omega. Vince nodded and reached for the cupboard without saying a word. "Get one for you too, Vince."

"Yes, ma'am."

"But these tastes awful." Junkyu said. His eyes went to Soi who was grinning from ear to ear, couldn't wait to eat the cake. She was practically jerking on Loren's lap. He then went to look at the taller omega who was silent the whole time, Junkyu almost thought he was muted if only he didn't say no to Soi when the kid tried to grab a sharp knife earlier.

"Just wait, cutie pie." Rose replied, causing the omega to blush from the pet name. "Sit with us, Vince." She ordered as he placed five plates and small forks on the center and handed Junkyu a knife.

"Yes, ma'am." The bulky alpha grabbed a vacant stool from the other side and set it next to Junkyu with a respectful distance from the omega.

With a knife in his hand, Junkyu pondered whether he should let the guests eat his cake. It was disappointing enough for him to show his bad baking skill to JeongWoo's family, and now they're going to taste it too?

"Junkyu, hurry!" Soi exclaimed, already holding a fork in her small fist.

He sighed internally as he gave in. He hesitantly cut the cake, intentionally choosing his fourth experiment as he thought it tasted a little bit better than the other. He distributed five slices while hoping somehow they're going to forget they ever ate his cake and mouthed a sorry to Vince for the alpha had to suffer once more. Vince surprisingly smiled at him, the kind that says 'it's going to be okay'.

The omega was still wondering what that smile meant when he smelled a strong scent of rain met with dry soil, and suddenly, he felt cold biting his skin from head to toe. It felt as though he was being thrown onto a field of snow, in the middle of a blizzard, naked. Junkyu shivered profusely, his eyeballs rolled to the back of his head, leaving only white surface to be seen by people in front of him, and when they returned, Junkyu faintly caught the same pitch black pupils on Rose's eyes, then his body felt normal again.
