A/N: Who's here?

I feel as though I must add a quick PSA.

Though I deal with a lot of animal behavior and analysis on a daily basis, I am not a very well-educated equestrian rider. Most of this information is from my basic knowledge of the species, education on animal behavior from college, how behavior crosses with human psychology, and heavy research.

If there is anything that is questionable or incorrect, please let me know. I am always open to educating myself!

Sorry for any mistakes!

Feeling the cold morning breeze as it fluttered through the open window of the pickup truck, Grace closed her eyes and absorbed the air against the gentle sunburn on the bridge of her nose. She listened to the old tires as they crunched against the dirt road approaching one of the medium-sized houses down the road from the ranch.

Maggie smiled when she noticed Grace's attention shift to the little figure waddling down the creaky porch stairs toward their truck. She looked between the two when Cleo shook out her speckled coat, smiling at Grace's hand reaching out of the truck to beacon the canine closer.

"Who lives here?" Grace wondered out loud through the bird-chirping silence that hung between them since they entered the truck that morning.

"Well, don't worry about that." Maggie chuckled. She pulled the handle and set the truck into park, cutting the engine just in time for the Merle shepherd to approach Grace's side of the truck. "You need to worry about how you'll play your part out here. Starting with your pick of the litter."

"My pick of the what?" Grace asked.

"Cleo!" Maggie called to the dog pacing outside Grace's door, clapping her hands as she climbed out of the old truck. "Where are those trainees of yours?"

Grace watched Maggie as the older woman slammed her door shut and greeted the Australian Shepherd by ruffling Cleo's blueish-speckled coat. She looked toward the entrance of the cabin-styled home when Maggie whistled, and the flap on the front door whipped open.

"Jesús Christy," Grace mumbled, fixing the leather hat over her head as different colored miniature versions of Cleo tumbled down the steps.

"Don't tell me you're scared of dogs too?" Maggie teased, nodding her head toward the six puppies. "Pick one!"

"I get to pick one?" Grace asked, unstrapping the waist buckle and quickly opening the door. "And it's mine?"

"If you graduate here. Your Moms already told me they agree." Maggie nodded. "But you gotta take care of yourself, or the pup comes back. Dog eats when you eat. Dog goes out when you go out. When you have work to do, so does the dog."
