Ugly Truth

The next evening I was awakened by my father. It was seven o' clock and we had guests coming over. I was assuming that Luke and him family were coming since they are the only family that my father lets me socialize with.

I curled my hair into loose curls, thickened my eyelashes with mascara, added foundation to my bruises, cuts and face. I chucked on a white chiffon dress and white plumps. I took the time to paint my nails s different colour. I painted them white.

Every little thing that I do reminds me of my mother so there will be no doubt that the colour white would bring back a memory. In a matter of seconds it did. White was her favourite colour. A flash back appeared in my mind.

"Mummy?" I asked my mother as we both sat underneath the stars on a chilly night, rugged up in a massive, warm blanket.

"Yes Jazmine" she answered not taking her eyes off the twinkling stars.

"What your favourite colour?" I asked.

She looked down at me and smiled "white" she said.

I cocked my head to one side "why?" I asked

She wrapped her arms around me and stroked my hair. I prepared myself to hear one of her many stories.

"Because white means peace Jazmine" she says "I believe that the colour white could stop all wars and contain everyone's anger"

"Is that why you have white flowers in your room?" I ask "to keep peace with you and daddy?"

She frowned and looked down sadly. I couldn't understand why.

"Yes Jazmine" she says "I try to keep peace between me and daddy."

I snapped out of my flashback as dad came storming into my room.

"They are here" he snapped and walked out of the room.

I dried my nails and walked out of the room and down the stairs. Luke sat at the bottom step with his brother Ben, waiting for me. As I reached the bottom step they both stood up and looked at me. Ben cleared his throat and I turned my attention to him. I tried to ignore Luke's blue eyes that were continuously burning holes in my skin.

"um Jazmine" Ben said. He grabbed a bundle of Jazmine flowers and handed them to me. My heart dropped and leaped up to my throat. I was flattered but also upset. My mother's favourite flowers were two inches in front of me.

I took them in my hands and gave Ben and small kiss on the cheek before he walked away into the living room. Luke stood there staring at me. His eyes never leaving mine.

"You never told me" he said balling his hands into fists.

I shook my head looked down to the ground "please Luke not now w-" I said but he cut me off.

"No Jazmine we are doing this now" he hissed "two nights ago I was attacked by some of the men in gang Bloodhound right in front of your house! They are after you Jazmine, they came for you and if I wasn't there you would be dead"

I gulped.

"And now I figure out that your dad abuses you at home" he says "Jazmine you will die  if you don't talk anyone about this."

I clenched my jaw "I will die either way Luke" I say "either by my father or gang bloodhound."

Luke paced around the room "what will Michael think about this" he says.

I shrug "he doesn't have to know" I say.

Luke starred at me in disbelief "trust me Jazmine" he says "he will find out the ugly truth"

I looked down to the floor "I dont want him to know"

"He's your best friend Jazmine" he says.

I don't answer. Part of me wishes that I didn't run into Michael when I received the letter from Gang Blood Hound.

"What are we going to do with Gang Bloodhound?" I asked changing the subject.

Luke thought for a moment then started to pace around the room again, overthinking and re thinking his thoughts.

"Meet me at the bottom of your street tonight at one o clock" he says

"Why?" I ask

"You going to Michael's" he says "and hes going to know the truth"

"What if everything fails?" I asked

"It won't."
