"Where have you been???" Bowser roars when Wario comes into view. "Please tell me you're late because you and Mario worked things out."

"Are you kidding? He basically pretended I didn't exist."

"Unacceptable! You're handling the kingdom's finances!"

"He only goes over everything after the plan's been drawn up. Otherwise he's just the castle handyman/bodyguard."

"You earned his trust before; you need to do it again. Now."

"Mario, I know we hit a hump, but if you want to take some time off, you can." Peach offers. "I bet Wario wouldn't object."

"I appreciate the offer, but that's not happening. Wario's off the Sammer Kingdom committee."

"I still don't understand why all this is necessary." Mr. L says, gesturing to the fancy restaurant around them. "I already celebrated with a friend."

"But it's your first day working at the racetrack!" The head of mechanics Toad exclaims. "Way I see it, that's something worth celebrating over and over!"

Mr. L raises a glass, "Won't argue with that. Cheers. Honestly, I do appreciate all this. You've made this whole thing a lot more bearable."

"I know you had your doubts on whether or not someone besides your brother would want you to work with them."

Mr. L looks away. "Uh huh. I know what I did is considered unforgivable. I'm still sorry."

"I believe you." The Toad assures him. "And we can't blame you for your memory not coming back. No one has any control over that. That was then, this is now, the Mushroom Kingdom racetrack's new mechanical engineer!"

Mr. L chuckles, "I know I only signed the contract, got my uniform and workstation today, but let me tell you, when I first saw where I was going to be working? It felt like home."

"That's amazing, and ironically, that's another reason why I called you out here. I got a big job set up, and I think your skills would be perfect for it."

"What's it for?"

"Your big debut, of course." The Toad smiles.

"Mario put his foot down, there's no chance of redeeming myself in his eyes." Wario tries to reason.

"Which is why you're going to do it right now." Bowser orders.

"He threatened to fire me!" Wario protests.

"I will double your salary to find a way to get back in Mario's good graces."

"I did everything humanly possible! We're dead in the water."

"Today we are. But you still have tonight."

"What are the odds we finally find someone who can help us with a crisis, and he suddenly lands a better job?"

"Of all the jobs, he goes for one working in our finances?"

"Just wish I'd known that's what he was after all this time." Mario shakes his head in disgust. "Maybe I never would've pushed you to reach out to him in the first place. But still, I did tell him he's off the committee."

"Well, we still have his plan for the Sammer Kingdom, and he seems to be good with numbers." Peach tries to look on the bright side. "As the princess, it's never good to throw away a good opportunity because the initial one doesn't work out."
