Luigi May Be 2 for 2, but Mario Can't Seem to Stop Batting at Zero

"Read it and weep." Mr. L throws his own map at Mimi when she arrives at his house.

She does, noting, "You drew both maps on top of each other?"

"Remember how we couldn't figure out why Nastasia would give us an outdated map?" Mr. L asks, and when she nods. "Well I threw it on top of the old one, and realized they overlapped." "Like puzzle pieces." Mimi understands.

"She must've known that only someone with an eye for detail and the drawing skills of an engineer would be able to see it and put them together like this, but Mimi, this means we did it!" Mr. L cheers. "I think. Why else would she trust me with this?"

"Absolutely." Mimi agrees. "Now if only we could figure out exactly where she wants us to go up there for—"

"We might have stumbled onto something huge. Like alert-the-princess huge. Mimi, we need to get to the bottom of this before any bad guys do. I want to go into town and see if Toad knows anyone who might know what's up there. Help me out?"

Mimi hisses. "I would, but I can't. I'm gonna be out of reach."

"What? Why?"

"My boyfriend surprised me with a romantic getaway."

Mr. L's face falls for only a second, before he shakes it off, "That's awesome! I want details when you get back!"

After Mimi leaves, Mr. L spends his time trying to sketch more details on his map to see if there's more overlap he missed.

He's careful and meticulous, making sure there's no lines where there shouldn't be, then finally, when he's sure every detail has been accounted for, he steps back to look at it as a whole.

And promptly drops his mouth open, "I don't believe it."

"Morning!" Mario greets Peach as he comes into the conference room.

"Mario?" Peach greets back. "You seem a lot happier."

"The Sammer Kingdom budget is all written up, it just needs approval, then we can start ordering materials."

"The plan is moving exactly as planned." Wario tells Nastasia. "The documents were swapped. Within days, the kingdom will be brought to its knees."

"And Mario?"

"Doesn't remember a thing. Thinks everything's coming up roses."

"And you made sure of it?" Nastasia demands. "Mario has no reason to doubt anything you told him?"

"None. He thinks he fell asleep working on the budget, while I replaced it with invoices depositing Diamond City's aid straight into the Mushroom Kingdom's finances."

"Well done. Now we step back and watch everything unfold."

"Wario pulled an all-nighter helping me put it together. I think you'll be impressed." Mario tells Peach. "All I know is I can finally focus on letting myself move on."

"Mario..." Peach says gently. "Luigi didn't leave that long ago. And if he hadn't joined our side, the Mushroom Kingdom would've been just one world destroyed by the Chaos Heart, out of who knows how many."

Mario crosses his arms, "Are you going somewhere with this?"

"Everyone can see you're not doing as well as you say you are." Peach doesn't beat around the bush. "Perhaps you're hiding behind work and being a hero?"
