Mario's looking at a photo of him and Luigi when he hears Peach call for him excitedly,

"Mario!"

She walks into his living room, and upon noticing the photo, asks, "Oh. What's the matter?"

Mario shakes his head, "Nothing. Just glad the whole nightmare with Nastasia is finally over."

But Peach shakes her head, "Nuh uh. Something's wrong. What is it? Luigi? Did you talk to him?"

"Uh huh." Mario says dejectedly. "I told him how I felt. How I still feel."

Peach can see where this is going, "And nothing's changed? At all?"

"He doesn't hate me for it, so that's something." Mario says. "But he still just sees us as estranged brothers that sometimes get along."

Peach sits next to him, "Oh dear, I'm so sorry, Mario."

"No, it's fine." Mario assures her. "Now I know."

She leans in to hug him, and Mario just lets her, letting her softness squish him like a pillow.

"Heya!" Mimi calls to Mr. L, who's currently under a go-kart.

He pulls out long enough to say, "Hey there."

"You almost ready?"

"For?"

"The rehearsal dinner, silly!" Mimi reminds him, and Mr. L balks, "Oh shoot, that was tonight?"

"You said you were gonna help me do the run through." Mimi says.

"I totally forgot in all the excitement about Nastasia backing off." Mr. L says. "She called me."

"Really?" Mimi's surprised. "And she didn't try to shake you down for more coins?"

"Nope. Apparently whatever price Nastasia had, Peach took care of it. It's back to normal for all of us."

"Is it really?" Mimi wonders.

"Other than Peach putting us further in debt right when we're helping the Sammer Kingdom, yeah, we are." Mr. L nods. "And I don't care if I have to work myself to death, I'm paying it all back. I'll give her everything my debut makes if that's what it takes."

"Knew I picked you as my best man for a reason." Mimi says. "And one more time, I am very, very sorry for ever doubting your commitment to your new life. Or my place in it."

"I'm not going anywhere, Mimi." Mr. L promises. "I don't need anything or anyone else."

"Hey! Why the long face?"

"What?" Mr. L barely registers Toad approaching.

"You look like you're millions of miles away." he says, coming to sit at his table. "Wanna talk?"

"It's Mimi's rehearsal dinner." Mr. L tries to deflect.

"I'm your friend, even if you don't remember. She'll understand."

"You make a valid argument." Mr. L nods. "I told Mario some good news, and he told me he misses me."

"Well of course he does!" Toad doesn't get it. "What did you tell him?"

"That I love my life as it is." Mr. L says. "Without him in it."

"So you didn't sugarcoat it, he knows exactly where you stand." Toad surmises. "What's wrong with that?"

"I'm wondering if I should tell Mimi about it." Mr. L admits. "But..."

"But it's her rehearsal dinner, and you don't want to ruin her special day." Toad finishes for him.

"Not to mention her worries would rear up their ugly heads again, after I just beat them down." Mr. L adds. "I don't want her to think about anything but the guy she's gonna marry, and her wedding."

"And you're positive she has nothing to worry about?" Toad pushes.

"100%." Mr. L doesn't even have to think about it.

"Then just let time heal for all of you." Toad suggests. "Believe me."
