A knock on the door has Mimi answering it, surprised when she finds Mario on the other end.
"Oh. Mimi. Hello."
"Hello, Mr. Legendary Hero." She greets him.
"Um, is Luigi here?"
"No, Mr. L is not." Mimi emphasizes. "You just missed him, but he shouldn't be gone too long. Do you wanna leave a message?"
Mario replies, "Actually, this is completely random, but I came here to talk to you too.", then comes inside, walking right past her.
"Luigi?" Peach says upon seeing her friend come to the throne room.
"Hello, princess." Mr. L greets her as he approaches. "I came to talk to you about Star Hill. It proved to be a dead end."
Peach sighs in disappointment, "You didn't find anything up there?"
"No, I did not." Mr. L still doesn't understand why it feels like he's lying. "All I know is my life as Mr. L. But I'm here so your toads can find somewhere else for me to look."
Peach's eyes widen, "You want to go back?"
"Absolutely. Look, princess, I'm so sick of living half alive. I want to be the person I know is hiding inside me. I want to remember everyone, including you. I want my life back."
"Luigi, nobody is arguing that." Peach says quickly.
"And when I first got to Star Hill, I swear I felt something. I was sure there was something up there. I was so close, I knew it. Maybe one last try will be key."
Peach shakes her head, "I'm sorry, Luigi, but your efforts are in vain."
Mr. L looks thrown for a second, before he says, "Okay, but you still have my map, right?"
"I do. But I'm not going to let you have it back."
"Stars, I can only imagine how Luigi is feeling." Mario laments, sitting on Mr. L's couch.
"Same as you, I take it?" Mimi asks, choosing to stand as she speaks to him. "After all, you wanted him to remember everything too."
"And now you're gloating because he doesn't." Mario accuses.
"I am not!" Mimi protests.
"Don't play dumb with me." Mario requests. "I see the way you are with each other. Why would you for one second be okay with him remembering that's how he was with me?"
"I don't have any say in this." Mimi replies coolly. "This is all Mr. L's decision. If he wants to remember everything, nobody is going to stand in his way, not even me."
"Even if that means he's not your friend anymore?" Mario challenges.
Mimi crosses her arms. "Not that it's any of your business, but Mr. L rightfully pointed out that my reservations were more about my upcoming nuptials than they were about him. And besides, I've gotten to know him pretty well since we saved the world." Mimi grins. "If we're meant to be a part of each other's lives, we'll make it happen, memory or no memory."
Mario stands up. "You have a point.", then goes over to the kitchen counter, leaning against it.
"For the record?" Mimi says. "I don't bear any ill will against you anymore. I'm over it."
Mario turns to her, smiling. "Thank you."
Mimi clears her throat before it can get too awkward, "Hang on. Didn't you say you also came to talk to me about something?"
