"Okay, so what's your claim?" Mr. L asks once they're somewhere more private.
"Very long story short, Mario finally snapped. And I'm willing to let you spread the word, but not for free."
"Did Mario do something?"
"Did he ever. I'm the one who caught him."
"That's not something you can just say without evidence."
"I caught him redirecting the funds for the Sammer Kingdom directly into his own account. Is that evidence enough for you?"
"I don't understand." Peach looks over the papers.
"Neither do I." Mario has no idea how he's supposed to feel.
"Toadsworth, look!" Peach hands the papers over to him when he walks in. "Wario handed invoices over to the authorities claiming Mario robbed Diamond City blind."
"That can't be!" Toadsworth flips through the papers.
"This has to be a huge mistake." Mario swears. "I worked harder than anyone on the committee! I wouldn't do this! You've all seen me! We just got the budget approved!"
"A budget based on money we no longer have, according to this." Toadsworth holds up the papers.
"I promise you, I did not do this. It's a lie."
"I'm so sorry, Master Mario, but this is no lie. They're informing you they have the invoices in question. You are officially under investigation."
Mario starts pacing frantically, "Someone has to be setting me up. Someone who doesn't want the Sammer Kingdom to be rebuilt, or to make me look bad."
"Master Mario..." Toadsworth flips to the last page. "It appears to be signed by Master Wario."
"That's his signature." Peach confirms.
Mario shakes his head in complete confusion, "I have to talk to him. There has to be a reason for this we're not seeing."
"Mario..." Peach says gently, making Mario wince. "Don't you think it's time we admitted Wario was setting you up from the get-go?"
"You turned my brother in for embezzlement?" Mr. L's already smelling a rat.
"Are you going to spread the word or not?"
"No, but I have no problem giving you a serious beat down." Mr. L snaps.
"Is that any way to talk to the guy that brought your brother's true motives to light?"
"I care about my brother." Mr. L gets up in his face. "It may not be what it was before, but I still care. And that's how I don't even need to talk to him to know that you're a lying, calculating, disgusting--"
"Mr. L?" He hears Nastasia come up behind him. "Is everything alright?"
"Get a load of this guy." Mr. L gestures to Wario flippantly. "Apparently he just turned over invoices claiming Mario embezzled all of the funding from Diamond City and took it for himself."
"That can't be." Nastasia's tone gives nothing away.
"My brother is a good man." Mr. L doesn't need his memory back to know that. "He'd do anything for the kingdom or the princess. He'd never do something like this, and that's why I've just made it my sole mission in life to take. You. Down."
"Too bad. Here I was hoping you'd finally gotten out from under your brother's bad influence with that memory wipe. Should've known the power of brotherly love is too strong for that."
