Chapter 13

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

The next day Sophie and Carl were all "sweet pea" this and "honey pie" that. A lot must've happened on their date. Kaito had never seen any two people fall for each other so fast. (He didn't think his and Kiyoshi's case counted since they'd both been secretly crushing on each other for years before they became real lovers.)

"I take it the date went well," Kaito said when he saw the couple at school. "Oh it was more than just well! Carl is a darling!" Sophie exclaimed. Carl smiled at his girlfriend's remark. He put an arm around her so she could pull her closer to himself. Sophie showed no resistance. In fact, she gave Carl a quick kiss on the cheek. She had to stand on her toes in order to reach Carl's face. He was abnormally tall for his age.

Kaito walked down the hall to greet his own boyfriend. "Hey there, hot stuff," he whispered in Kiyoshi's ear. The boy froze in front of his locker, without turning around to see who had just whispered in his ear. "I know it's you, Kaito," he said. "And no talking seductively in public!"

Kaito smirked. "I'm seductive?" he wondered. "Nice."

Once Kiyoshi got his things, the two boys walked to calculus class together. "Have you seen Sophie and Carl?" Kaito asked. "No. How are they?" Kiyoshi wondered. "Disgustingly in love," his boyfriend answered. "More than us?" Kiyoshi asked. Kaito chuckled. "Not at all like us," he said. "We're better. And I fine we're much more... sexy." Kiyoshi raised an eyebrow at him. "You serious?" he questioned. "Of sorts," Kaito replied, wrapping his arms around Kiyoshi. "People are staring," the shy one commented. "Let them," Kaito said. "I'm not letting go of you."

Kiyoshi turned his to the side so he could see Kaito's face. His big blue eyes looked deeply into Kaito's own brown ones. "I never said I wanted you to let me go," Kiyoshi commented, "but you'll have to in class. You can hold me as much as you'd like at my house, where we can have some real fun."

Kaito's eyes lit up. "Kiyoshi, you devil, being all suggestive like that! I would LOVE to hold you more later, hopefully with no barriers in between." Kaito tugged at Kiyoshi's shirt, making the latter feel uncomfortable. He blushed, and again tried using his blue scarf to cover his reddened face. Kaito just pulled the scarf down. "You can't hide from love," he said, in a most seductive tone. Kiyoshi couldn't help but grin.

They had both gotten so caught up in each other, neither of them realized they were late. When they arrived at the calculus classroom, Mr.Quail was waiting for them at the door. He was not happy. Both boys got detention.

"At least we have it together," Kaito pointed out once they had sat down. "True," Kiyoshi said, "but it's not like the teacher serving our detention is going to let us canoodle the entire time." Kaito raised an eyebrow. "Canoodle?"

Kaito's next class was chemistry. This was probably the class he hated the most. What he probably hated the most about chemistry was the cliché that one's lab partner always ended up being the person's lover. Seriously?

Kaito hated his lab partner. It was none other than Gregory Jones, who wasn't smart at all. He was lazy and rarely worked. Instead he spent most of the class picking his nose and telling Kaito weird stories about girls he liked. Kaito just found him disgusting.

That day Gregory was going on about none other than Sophie Dale. "She has a boyfriend," Kaito kept saying, but Gregory just continued: "...brown eyes. I love brown eyes. They're my favorite. Oh look, you have brown eyes. That's nice. You must attract plenty of girls. Oh wait, you're gay aren't you? My bad. I'll just talk about hair now..."

Then Gregory went on about Sophie's gorgeous red hair. "Oh shit, just kill me now!" Kaito mumbled to himself.

When the bell rang, Kaito was filled with relief. Sophie was a great friend to him, but he didn't need to spend an hour talking to someone about her hair. That would be completely irrelevant.
