My First Love

Chapter 8

CHAPTER EIGHT

Kaito didn't know what to make out of this. So he just went home. Surely whatever was bugging Kiyoshi would be gone by the time they have their date.

"Hey Kaito!" Lila yelled when her brother got home. "Hi," he replied, laying down on the couch. "Ok, what's wrong?" Lila asked in a very stern voice. "Why do you assume something is wrong?" Kaito asked. "Dude," his sister said, "you're crying."

Kaito felt his face. Surely enough it was wet. "How did I not notice that?"

Lila shrugged. "Either way, you're crying. And that means something happened." She crossed her arms over her chest. "Tell me."

Kaito sighed. "Kiyo's upset about something," he said. His sister just stared at him awkwardly. "Kiyoshi's always upset. What's so special about this time?" Lila asked.

"Can you keep a secret?" Kaito suddenly looked serious. "Ya, of course," Lila answered, but she didn't know if she really meant it. She was about to ask Kaito something, but he just started talking: "This time everything's different. I can't help but think Kiyo's mad at me. It sucks."

"Are you two dating?" Lila asked. Kaito's eyes widened. "Where'd you get that idea?" he asked. "Well, someone told me Kiyo was gay," his sister said. "And no offense or anything, but you seem totally into him."

Kaito couldn't hide the truth anymore. "I am," he said. "In fact, our first date was supposed to be tonight. But now I don't know. Kiyoshi's really upset. It might be against me. By the way, how'd you know he was gay?" Kaito asked. "Rumors," Lila answered.

Then it dawned on Kaito. That's why Kiyoshi must've been so upset; that's why he didn't sit with Kaito at lunch. Someone had started that rumor, but who? Only Kaito and the Caspers knew Kiyoshi's secret. But maybe...

Kaito tool out his phone and began typing: "can u come over? its about my boyfriend. --Kaito" He sent the text to Sophie and waited for a response. It was only a matter of seconds before his phone beeped. "sure. b there in a few." the text said.

Thirteen minutes later, the doorbell rang. "I'll get it!" Lila yelled. She ran over to the door and yanked it open. She was dissatisfied with who she saw. "Hi, Sophie," she muttered. "Here to see Kaito, I assume."

Lila let Sophie in, even though she didn't really like her. She thought Sophie spent too much time with Kaito. Lila liked it much better when Kiyoshi came over. In her opinion gay couples were a lot hotter than the straight ones.

Sophie walked straight to Kaito's room. She knew where it was after only going there three times before, but that was enough. She and Kaito have certainly grown closer.

"Hey," Sophie said through Kaito's open door. "Come in," he said, "and close the door behind you."

Sophie did as he asked. Then she came and sat on the bed next to him. "You okay?" she asked. "Honestly, no," Kaito answered. "Will you tell me what happened?" Sophie asked.

It was a lot for Kaito to explain, but he did: "Me and Kiyoshi-- he's my boyfriend-- we were supposed to have our first date tonight. But Lila just informed me about the rumors going around about Kiyo and his sexuality, and he's not happy. He wouldn't speak to me all day after calculus."

"You know, I sat with him at lunch today," Sophie said. "But he didn't seem angry at any rumors; he was angry with you."

"Me?" Kaito sputtered.

"I'm sorry," Sophie apologized. Her face looked pained, but not as much as Kaito. He looked like someone had just died, or like his heart had just been torn from his own chest.

"I though it might not last," Kaito said, "but I never imagined it would be like this. I feel like I was never even given a chance. I don't even know why Kiyo's mad! Shit, I just don't know anything anymore."

Sophie wrapped a comforting arm around Kaito. "It'll be okay," she told him.

Kaito looked up at her and realized what she was doing. "Wait, no--"

He was cut off when Sophie placed her lips on his. A shocked gasp came from his throat. He didn't know what was going on, or why Sophie has chosen to do this. But Kaito didn't kiss back. He couldn't. He kept his mouth shut tight and refused to let Sophie's tongue break apart his lips.

Sophie finally drew away. Kaito noticed she was crying. "I know, I shouldn't have done it," she said. "But you finally seemed like you really liked me. And I mean really liked me. And I know your having boyfriend problems, so I probably just made your situation worse. I'm just really sorry. I don't know what else to say. I don't know if I was trying to maybe comfort you, but I sure as damn, didn't help at all. Please forgive me."

By the end of Sophie's speech, she was sobbing. Kaito looked at her awkwardly, and noticed that that probably wouldn't help. So he put a smile on instead.

"Sophie, I love you, but only as friend. And friends do crazy things sometimes, so I totally understand. You should've seen me when I first told Kiyoshi how I felt. That was just all kinds of awkward. But even so, it's all okay, because friends always forgive each other. Always. No matter what."

"Thanks," Sophie said. "And I really hope you and Kiyo can fix whatever problem you have. That ship does not deserve to sink."

"What?" Kaito asked. Sophie giggled. "Sorry, yaoi fangirl stuff."

Kaito just smiled through the awkward moment. "Anyways," he said, trying to change the subject, "want to help me get ready for my date?"

"Are you still going?" Sophie asked. "Doesn't matter," Kaito said. "I'm gonna fix this problem. And if I go down to hell, Kiyo's commin' with me."

CRONA: hehe I wanna be Sophie! For two reasons: one is kissing Kaito (cuz I made him such a hot character) and two is getting to help Kaito get ready for a date! That's gotta be awesome! And I think I might make Lila help out with that too, since she loves yaoi as well. Lila and Sophie could be great friends if they knew... Anyways, please vote and comment!
