She couldn't watch someone do that to someone else. That day they became friends. As Bae went missing in the world without Magic, Rose went with him. Days and days passed and they learnt to survive on their own. Together. But as the litlle girl, oh what am I telling you? She wasn't little, she was two years older than Baelfire and that means she was fifteen. So someday Bae was out looking for food while Rose was looking for a place to sleep. As the night went by, Baelfire didn't come back and she was worried. In this one year waiting, she decided that Bae wasn't going to come back and gave up. And those months in the absence of Baelfire changed her.
