Grian barely registered the startled reactions from his friends as he burst through the door of the villain headquarters. Xisuma, Xisuma, where's- I need to- he can help.
I need X.
BDubs was the first to approach him, swiftly followed by Pearl. "What- what's wrong? Why did you- run in like that?" He added, mildly confused.
Grian paused for a moment, trying to figure out what to say, or if he could even string together a sentence at all. It felt like an impossible task, to summarise the shock that he was still processing in something as little as a single sentence.
He was brought back to the conversation by a quiet question from Pearl that singled itself out from BDubs' confused interrogation. "Grian, are you okay?"
Okay.
Okay?
Was he?
He wasn't sure what to say. It was that sentence that let him really think about what had just happened.
One of his closest friends, one of the most important people in his life, was in danger because of him.
His other closest friend probably hated him.
He knew he probably wouldn't be able to return to the apartment- to his home. There was no way Scar would want a villain living with him.
Maybe it was the fact that because of Pearl's question he had only just really processed what had just happened, or he wasn't sure if he really was okay, but when he opened his mouth to respond to his friend's question, he burst into tears.
Pearl's confused expression was replaced by a mildly alarmed and sympathetic one. "Hey, hey, don't worry- it's okay- what's wrong?"
Grian's second attempt to form a coherent sentence resulted in more sobbing. He managed to mumble something about how Xisuma could help before Pearl pulled him into a hug, and he buried his face in the crook between her neck and shoulder as he hugged her back, still crying as she tried to calm him down.
The parrot hybrid could still vaguely hear concerned mutterings in the background as Pearl lead him to a quiet corner of the room and the two sat down, but he didn't particularly care what they were saying.
In fact, Grian didn't even look up or attempt to stop himself from crying until he heard the voice of the person who's help he needed so desperately.
"Is- Grian here? I need to- he said- I told him to-" Xisuma was glancing around with a mildly panicked expression and his gaze softened when he spotted the dirty blonde staring at him. "Oh. Guessing he's not in much of a state to talk right now." The brunette added with a concerned frown before turning to BDubs. "Did he tell you what happened, or...?"
"No. He just kinda- started crying and muttered something about you being able to help. I don't- what happened?" The villain finished, still incredibly confused.
Grian zoned out slightly as Impulse joined Xisuma and BDubs' conversation, still leaning against Pearl and trying to ignore the retelling of what had just happened.
He could vaguely hear some form of planning in the background- something about Impulse knowing a guy with invisibility powers, and a heist of sorts- sneaking into the hero headquarters maybe?
Grian didn't care.
He was still trying to convince himself that it was all a crazy dream, and he was still reeling from the shock of Mumbo's disappearance and Scar's...
Was betrayal the right word? Secret... keeping? Lying? Trickery?
All the bad things.
Grian didn't know how to describe what Scar did, he just knew that his heart ached because of it.
The gray eyed man was brought back to the conversation as he felt someone tap him on the head lightly. "Hello? You still in there, bud? Did we break you?" The voice asked, much more gentle than usual, as Grian looked up and attempted to regulate his breathing again. Huh. So he can be nice.
Impulse was crouched down next to him with a mildly concerned expression, although he smiled slightly as Grian turned to face him.
"Okay, you're listening, great. Okay, so we have a plan, wanted to see if you'd like to join me. As you know, when I drain people's energy, I gain a bit of their power as well, right?" When Grian nodded, the brunette continued. "Okay, well I can also transfer the borrowed power to whoever I'm touching. So the plan is that I drain the energy of this guy I know with invisibility powers and, holding on to you- or whoever would join me-, we make our way to the hero headquarters, invisible, enter and rescue your roommate. That sound good?" Impulse smiled as Grian nodded slowly.
"Okay, good, cool. Two things though- one, the invisibility will slowly wear off- I only gain a tiny bit of the other person's power, after all, so- be careful not to let go of me or I won't be able to re-apply the power to you. And two, we need to be very careful because we only get one shot at rescuing your friend before the heroes either capture Grian or realise something's up." Grian nodded again as his friend straightened. "Okay, good. We're still working out the finer details of the plan, but don't worry- we're confident that the heroes won't hurt your friend- it would damage their image." Impulse added sarcastically before shrugging and walking away.
Grian vaguely heard Impulse mutter, "Can't believe they kidnapped a guy just because their fragile, inflated egos couldn't handle a villain getting more support than them," as he walked away.
The dirty blonde went to laugh at the brunette's remark and then stopped himself, frowning. This isn't a time to be laughing. He scolded himself silently. This is serious. They- if the plan doesn't work the first time, the heroes might get fed up with us and hurt Mumbo. He shuddered slightly at the thought.
Void, I hope Impulse's plan works. He glanced over to Cub and Gem, who had joined in on the planning talk enthusiastically (Doc was nowhere to be seen), before looking back at Pearl, who he received a small reassuring smile from as he looked up.
Because if it doesn't, I don't know what I'll do.
Angst go brrrrrrrrrr
Grian is sadge
Anyways heist time next chapter >:D
Also dw Doc being nowhere to be seen isn't some sinister implication, he was just busy that day lol
