Chapter 12

// Brianna

[2 months later]

I trotted along the grey pavement forcing my feet to take me faster than they already were. I grabbed my phone out of my purse in haste, to take a glance at the time. 5.20pm. Shit! I cussed, halting myself to an abrupt stop. There was no point in hurrying anymore. I had missed the last bus to Baker Street already. If only Dr. Cooper hadn't decided to give me a complete biography of the current case he was studying. The tube-stations had shut down already, and the only means of getting home now would be a taxi, since choosing to walk down the next 15 blocks just so I could save 20 pounds would be quite irrational.

I made my way down to the taxi stand, annoyed at the fact that I'll have to spend 18 extra pounds now. The bus ride would've only cost a couple of bucks. Yes, I'm extremely stingy when it comes to money. Penny-pincher would probably be the right word.

On reaching the vacant taxi stand, I stood there patiently awaiting a black cab but to my absolute surprise, instead of the little cab that I was expecting a classy, black Range Rover halted itself at the stand. The window to the driver's seat rolled down, revealing a certain blondie.

"Wey hey, where we goin?" The boy asked, a cocky smile plastered onto his lips.

"Don't think that concerns you in any way, sorry." I replied, keeping a straight face.

"Oh sure it does. A beautiful lady, standing here all alone by herself, transportation-less. It's my duty to get her home safely." He stated.

Did he say 'beautiful'? He really said that? He thinks I'm beautiful?

Tossing away my bag of irrelevant thoughts, I quickly responded.

"You work for some drop-random-girls-home-safely organisation?" I questioned.

"Girl, it would be silly to turn this hot, blonde piece of Irish down. No one would do that." He quirked an eyebrow.

I found myself chuckling at the smiling dork. "As much as I would love to carry on with this witty little conversation going on, I'm tired and I need to get home. So, I'll just hop in." I said, walking over to the other side of the car. I unlocked the door and placed myself on the front-seat.

"I knew you were easy." He grinned, as I buckled my seat-belt.

"Oh shut up, Niall!"

"Admit it Brynn, you can't resist my charms." He winked.

"A little too self-conceited, aren't we?"

"I'm sexy and I know it." He poked his tongue out at me, gearing his stylish vehicle to a start.

"So.. Where were you going?" I asked after short, casual silence.

"I was on my way home, from the studio.. I'll probably meet up with some friends tonight." He answered me. "How was your day?" He asked.

"As usual.. The same squeaky clean environment.. injecting people, checking pulse rates, dealing with pee samples.." I sighed.

"You don't really like being a nurse?" He questioned, seriously, his eyebrows placing themselves in a slightly crooked form.

"Assistant nurse." I corrected him. "And no, never wanted to be one,"

"What did you want to be?"

"A doctor. It was my dream. I always scored the highest marks in biology back in school. I wanted to be a cardiologist. Everyone used to say, I'll be great at it," I exhaled.
