[Chapter Fifteen]
Y/n looked around the room, her eyes flashing over the people surrounding her until her gaze landed on me. Her lips pulled into a smile, and I felt my heart swell. I never realized how much I missed seeing it until I saw her face light up.
She grabbed Jonah by his arm to move him out of the way as she limped toward me, her hand on the wall for support. I began to walk to her, meeting her halfway. She placed her hands on my forearms as she beamed up at me, her eyes softening.
"Hi, Katsuki," She said. She puckered her lips, making me grab her cheeks and squish them together. The corner of my lip twitched up when she glared at me, swatting my hand away. "Quit bein' mean and kiss me."
"Should I?" I questioned.
"Don't be an ass," She whined. "I haven't seen you in a few days!"
"Okay, okay," I chuckled, leaning down to press my lips against hers. She smiled.
It had been almost seven months since Y/n woke up. She was beginning to recover, albeit it was slow, and she was frustrated at that, but she was making progress. She had a slight feeling in her leg now, and she finally left the brace on her leg alone. It traveled from her ankle all the way up to her thigh and was secured around her waist. I knew she hated wearing it, but once she started walking again, she stopped complaining. She knew it was helping her.
Midoriya and I had been working to try and find Kimina, Dabi's soulmate. Her quirk was of some importance, as was Y/n's, making them both a target. Kimina has been missing for almost a year now, and there was absolutely no trace of her. It was almost as if she'd gone off the grid completely. Like she never existed in the first place.
"I wish you would let me help you," Y/n grumbled, her lips in a pout as she watched me fix part of my suit. I glanced at her in the corner of my eye.
"You need a break from your brainy shit," I mumbled. "You think too hard."
She picked up one of the precision screwdrivers and twisted it in her hand. "You don't think hard enough. Besides, you're doing it wrong."
I closed my eyes and exhaled heavily. "Y/n."
"I designed the suit, Katsuki," She said, straightening her back. "Let me fix it. I don't even have to get up. Just hand it here."
"I can do it!"
"You're literally unscrewing the wrong panel. You're gonna bust the mainframe if you keep fucking with it. Give it to me," She held her hand out.
"You are so fucking insufferable," I glared at her. "I can fix my own suit."
"I made that thing with my own two hands, slaving hours of work—"
"I'm gonna strangle you,"
"—and there's no way I'm gonna let you ruin my work. Give me the damn suit before I strangle you."
She snatched the suit from my hands and laid it out across the table. She took the toolset and slid it closer to her, grabbing a soldering iron from above her head. I exhaled heavily.
"Stop it."
"Stop what?" I quirked a brow.
She removed a panel and gently set it to the side. "You're doing that thing where you stare at me and worry."
"I'm not staring at you," I muttered.
Y/n turned. "Katuski, if your eyes were lasers, I'd have a giant hole in the back of my head. I'm not stupid, you know."
"Obviously not," I said, watching her solder a wire to the paneling.
"I'm alright now, okay?" She said, her voice a little quieter. "Really, I am. I want something to do. I need something to do. I can't just keep sitting here and doing nothing. I'm bored out of my mind. And I hate that everyone is babying me. I want to help you and Izuku. I need to be a part of this. I started it and it's going to bother me until I finish it. I have to do it."
I exhaled heavily. I watched at she flexed her fingers around the soldering iron, tightening her grip to try and steady her shaking hands. After a moment of failing to do so, she switched it off and placed it to the side. She looked down at her hands before rubbing her thumb over her palm.
"I know what happened scared you, Katsuki," She said, turning her head to look at me. "And there's nothing I can say to make up for that. I wish that it never happened, but there's nothing we can do about it now. I can't mope around and sulk. I have to do something if I want this to end."
"I know," I mumbled. "I just...don't wanna lose you again."
Her expression softened. "I'm not going anywhere, Katsu. Not for a while, at least."
She leaned forward, pressing her lips against mine. I felt my body relax slowly, and I brought my hand to rest on the side of her neck, my thumb brushing across her cheek. She smiled against my lips, pulling back slightly to meet my gaze.
"I love you, Katsuki."
"I love you too."
I couldn't help but study her. The curve of her lips, the slight arch of her eyebrow as she questioned my lingering gaze, the gleam in her e/c eyes, the warmth from her cheeks as she became flustered, realizing that I was staring at her, and the sheepish smile that pulled on her lips.
"Why are you staring at me?" She asked.
"'Cause you're beautiful," I mumbled. "Prettiest girl I ever laid eyes on."
Her blush deepened as she averted her gaze. "Katsuki, don't say stuff like that."
"Why not?" I smirked at her when she looked back at me. "It's true. There's not a single woman in this world, or any world, that will ever amount to how fuckin' pretty you are. I'm the most lucky goddamn guy to have you as my soulmate."
"Stop!" She whined, burying her face in her hands. I laughed at her, making her glare through her fingers. I grabbed her hands and moved them away, kissing her softly. She relaxed, her lashes brushing against my cheek, making me shudder from the light touch. She giggled.
"C'mon," I said, sliding off the stool.
"Hm? Where are we going?" She asked, following my movements. I grabbed the set of crutches leaning against the wall and handed them to her.
"To bed," I said, sliding my hands in my pockets. "You're not staying up like you used to."
"I did nothing but sleep for 4 months," She mumbled.
"Then you can sleep some more," I hummed.
