(n.) a nostalgic longing to be near something or someone that is distant, or that has been loved, and then lost.
In a society where you are connected with your soulmate, Bakugou Katsuki would have never imagined that his soulmate would be from an en...
In the video note she left for us, she told us that she had a third quirk. She said she was the one to open another portal between our world and hers. She'd been practicing behind the school and accidentally opened another outlet. However, as she opened this one, the one we'd originally been going back and forth through was closed.
"There can only be one opening at a time," Deku muttered, scrolling through the endless files. "As far as we know, we're the only ones who know about this portal."
"We need to find the rest of her family," I said, grabbing my gloves from the table. "We need to bring them with the family she has here. They're in more danger there than they are here."
"I agree," Deku replied, closing the laptop. "But in order to keep this place a secret, we need to go when we absolutely know no one is going to be around. We can't risk exposing this now."
"I.V.A.N," I said, hearing his voice reply back to me. "Monitor the security system at UA. Focus mainly in the back, slightly to the northeast."
"On it."
"We should get moving," Deku said, glancing at the digital clock. "It's almost 3 now. Hound Dog takes an hour break in fifteen minutes. If we can catch him while he's not there, we should get there no problem."
We quickly got dressed, making sure our faces were covered before slipping from the apartment. It only took about ten minutes for us to get to UA, neither of us using our quirks to keep low on the radar. They would obviously be able to hear mine.
"Hey, I.V.A.N," Deku mumbled, both of us crouching behind the wall. "Will your systems be online when we transfer worlds?"
"Y/n programmed all systems to be able to connect interdimensionally. As long as the world has a wifi connection and cellphone towers, I'll be able to assist," He replied.
"Good," I said. "Because we're going to need you to track everyone down once we get there."
Following the instructions Y/n gave us wasn't the easiest. We had to search around to find where she'd marked the trees, leading to the path where the portal was. She said it was deep in the forest, but I guess we'd both underestimated what she meant by that.
"Son of a—"
"Keep your voice down," Deku warned, ignoring me as I pulled yet another branch of thorns from my arm. "I.V.A.N, how are we doing?"
"Hound Dog is entering the school now. The security cameras don't reach your location. You're in the clear, Deku."
"Here it is,"
I stepped beside Deku, my gaze falling on the portal.
"I can't go home, Katsu. The portal was closed."
"Fuck, I-I didn't know—"
"No one does," She said, wiping her eyes with her sleeve. "But...it's okay. I'm going to be a hero, like you and the rest of the class. I'm not going to let this stop me. And you don't have to worry, Katsuki. After all, we're supposed to have each other's backs, right?"
I stepped in first, Deku following after me.
The city was dead at night. Even more than ours. There wasn't a car on the street, and everything was oddly silent. We walked into the alley, taking in our surroundings. We let ourselves adjust to switching before we did anything.
"Alright, I.V.A.N," Deku said. "Time to get to work."
"Get into the city's police database and find the addresses for the spouses of all of Y/n's siblings," I added. "Start with Jonah. He's the only one with kids."
"L/n Jonah, his wife, Hanna, and their son, Aoi, are currently residing at 763 East March Avenue. The location is 2.4 miles away," The AI replied. "The fastest route is to head straight. I'll tell you when to turn."
Deku and I wasted no time running down the street. I was glad that no one was out right now, meaning that we wouldn't have to hide or get weird stares from everyone. After about five minutes, I.V.A.N told us to turn right.
"The house is on your left."
Deku and I slowed our pace. He stayed at the bottom of the porch, keeping an eye out. I sighed before pulling my mask from my mouth and nose, letting it hang around my neck. I reached up, banging my fist on the door.
After a few minutes, I heard someone muttering from behind the door. There was some clanging, probably as the woman unlocked the door and swung it open.
"Can I help you?" She asked, tiredly rubbing her eyes. I took a sharp breath when I saw her very round stomach.
"You're Jonah's wife, right?" I asked. Her eyes widened.
"Jonah? How do you know him?"
"I'm Y/n's soulmate," I muttered. "Look, Jonah is safe, but you aren't. This is confusing—"
"You're heroes from another dimension," She said, making me look at her strangely. "Y/n explained some of this to us."
"Then you know what kind of danger you're in," I said. "We need to find Miyu and Kei's soulmates and take them with us."
"I can take you to them," She said. "Just let me get my son."
I nodded. She closed the door, and I saw a couple of lights flick on in the house. I walked back down the porch, making Deku look over at me.
"We're good for now," He said. "I.V.A.N isn't picking up on anyone with a quirk around."
I nodded. A few minutes later, Hanna came out, a backpack over her shoulder as she carried her toddler son.
"Come on," She said, walking to the truck parked in the driveway. "I already called and woke Sara and Kazuko up. They're meeting together and we're going to pick them up."
As we all climbed into the vehicle, me in front with Deku in the back, I noticed how calm Jonah's wife was over all this. So I said something.
"I don't think panicking would do us any good," She said shifting the truck as she turned the wheel, starting down the road. "We've all been worried sick. I just want to see my husband again."
"You will," I said. I glanced in the mirror to see Deku comforting the toddler as he began to fuss.
"I trust you," Hanna said, glancing over at me. "If Y/n trusts you, so do I."
I debated whether to tell her about Y/n's current state, then ask her again if she really trusted me.
