[Chapter Thirty-One]
I stepped onto the sidewalk, my eyes instantly going wide. Even from this distance, I could see the veil that covered what had to be at least four city blocks. The cloud of blue was of leviathan size, swirling up into the air like wisps of smoke. It was a bleak mist that obscured my vision, though, with my helmet, I was able to see the figures that resided within it.
"Y/n-chan!"
I turned my head, spotting Todoroki jogging toward me. I met him halfway, laying my hand on his shoulder, when I noticed he was having trouble catching his breath. He doubled over; his hands pressed against his thighs as he sucked in ragged breaths.
"Are you okay?" I asked, frowning behind my helmet.
"Yeah," He rasped. "It's just hard to breathe. The others are out cold. Endeavor was first because he'd been so close to her."
"What about Katsuki and Izuku?" He shook his head.
"No one can reach them. The mist must be blocking our comms or something," He replied.
"I.V.A.N, are you able to get a signal through to them?" I asked, watching their contacts light up in the corner of my eye.
"The signal is going through, but there isn't any response. Their vitals are steady, although their oxygen is a bit low," He answered.
"Stay as far away as you can, alright?" I said, facing Todoroki. "Have someone bring down some filtration masks and oxygen. I'm going to try and talk to her first."
"Be careful," He said. "This is your first time out since your injury."
"I'll be okay," I smiled.
I made sure that Todoroki could walk forward before I turned to face the thick mist. As I began to walk into it, I quickly realized that this mist had brewed into a heavy fog. I couldn't see anything, not even my hands in front of me. Because of this, I relied on I.V.A.N to lead me through the city toward Kimina.
"You're brave, Y/n."
My steps came to a halt. I looked around, the scanner in my helmet focusing on a dark figure a few meters in front of me.
"I'm not," I replied. "I was just the last resort."
"It's usually how it is, isn't it?" She asked, her figure growing closer.
As she neared, the mist began to lighten. Like in the eye of a storm, the haze dissipated, leaving a ten-meter clear radius that surrounded us. Though, when her steps came to a stop across from me, I felt my body tense. She was wearing a black tank top and cargo pants, her hair pulled behind her. Her eyes shone a bright electric blue, but it wasn't her eyes that caught me off guard. It was the four boys that loomed behind her.
