[Chapter Fourty-Five]

When I signed up for UA, I believed that I was going to make a change. I thought that the world we had been living in was horrible; so much crime, hatred, and chaos. I wanted to do something that would help change that into something more peaceful, as did everyone else who enrolled there. However, so many things happened within just a few months, which made me believe that maybe it was never worth it.

In the few, long years after Y/n and her family returned to their own home, mine fell apart. UA was fixed within the first year, however, now it sat vacant, collecting nothing but dust and cobwebs. The hero structure crumbled within the span of a few months. What Y/n had said and done was recorded and posted online, and it went viral. People agreed with everything that she had said—the heroes were nothing but a crack of shit.

The older heroes retired after everything began to fall, and almost all of the rest turned against their original beliefs. We had no more ranks, no agencies, and hardly even a police force. Most of the smiling faces that had made people feel safe at night, now had them locking their doors and hiding away from danger.

A select few heroes stayed true to their beliefs and tried to bring order to the chaos that had consumed our world. But, just like they all say, nothing lasts forever. Some of the students who were previously enrolled in UA followed after Midoryia, and we became vigilantes. Our hero licenses meant nothing to anyone, and no matter how we tried, nobody wanted to listen to us, so we took matters into our own hands.

I never would have thought it would have to come to this. All of us huddled around a small coffee table in an even smaller apartment, flipping through security cameras placed around the city. Todoroki stood by the window, peeking through the blinds occasionally to make sure no one was lingering around for too long. Midoriya and I sat on the couch, going through the cameras to spot anything out of the ordinary. Mina and Uraraka were in the kitchen, trying to cook something for us to eat while Yaoyorozu tried to fix up some of our gear.

All of us looked toward the door as it was pushed open. Kirishima entered, causing all of our shoulders to relax. He reached up, knocking his hood down as he raked a hand over his hair. Without upkeep, the normally bright red dye was now a dark black and hung in front of his eyes.

"Anything?" I asked.

Kirishima shook his head. I sat back on the couch, kicking my feet onto the coffee table in front of me. I watched as he entered the kitchen, placing his hand on Mina's waist before kissing her cheek softly.

"Woah, Katsuki,"

Midoriya's tone made me remove my feet from the table, leaning over to him as he pointed to the screen. In front of one of the cameras, there was a dark figure. They were facing what looked like to be a criminal in a standoff. In a flash, the opposing person was on the ground, the dark figure standing over them. When they lifted their head, I felt my heart stop.
