[Chapter Thirty-Seven]
In the aftermath, the frontline survivors and those who rushed to the front line, after completing their evacuation and rescue duties, all joined forces to stop Shigaraki from escaping.
The nomu, which are now referred to as near high-ends, were commanded to team up and execute distraction and disturbance strategies. While they made trouble for the heroes, three of the near high-ends were brought down. However, seven of them, along with Shigaraki and his people, managed to flee without a trace.
Gigantomachia, the giant villain, and Mr. Compress were apprehended. Re-Destro, Genten, Trumpet, and other crucial members of the Paranormal Liberation Front in attendance at the assembly were also captured. In total, 16,929 individuals were arrested.
However, Gigantomachai's rampage allowed 132 of them to escape, including some of the high-ranking advisers. Their bases scattered around the country were hit too, and the sympathizers were rounded up.
I knew that All for One had been using Shigaraki as a puppet, just like he had previously used Daisuke Coran. Though, I knew that he had bigger hopes for Shigaraki. But in the end, his consciousness died from his own body, and his 'rebirth,' so to say, was cut short the moment that he'd been broken from the rejuvenation tank. From what I had been told, the slight zap of electricity that had shot through both Pro Hero X-Less and Shigaraki wasn't enough to revive him. X-Less stated that he didn't even feel it. All for One was responsible for that.
But because of the singular obsession of one man, so many people lost their lives.
19 Pro Heroes. One of those was our Modern Hero Art History Teacher, Midnight. After everything had been settled, Mina found me at the hospital. She threw herself into my arms and could hardly say it out loud from how hard she'd been crying. Yaoyorozu joined us soon after, and I did my best to comfort them. I did my best to assure Iida and Todoroki that they had done as much as they could from where they had been. I visited all of my classmates, trying my best to cheer them up.
But I knew that what had just happened to them wasn't something that would fade overnight. The damage had been too severe for them to forget and move on like some other things that they had witnessed. The number of people that were injured was unimaginable, but the number of people who had lost their lives was even more disturbing.
When I was directing groups to the camps set up for medical attention and supplies, I had to force myself to keep my composure. I saw mothers carrying their children's lifeless bodies. I saw men begging others to hold on just for a bit longer. I saw the solemn faces of those who weren't able to bring their loved ones along. It was sickening.
