[Chapter Fourty-Six]

I looked up at the sound of the door opening. Miyu walked in, holding a china cup in her hands. She offered me a smile as she walked into the garage, carefully minding some of the things that had been scattered across the floor.

"I brought you some tea," She said. "Mom just made it."

"Did you—"

"Two scoops of sugar and a teaspoon of milk," She said smiling, placing it in front of me. "I know how you like it."

I pushed the goggled up, brushing my hair away from my face. "Thanks."

Miyu lingered beside me, folding her arms over her chest as she looked at the mess of my desk. Pieces of scrap metal, electronic boards, wires, and notes with my chicken-scratch handwriting littered practically the entire surface.

"So," She began. "What's the new project this time?"

"Just fixing up some old stuff," I said. "Nothing in particular. Just trying to get rid of all this scrap metal I've had lying around."

"How's your leg doing?" She asked. "Been walking on it?"

I pointed to the corner of my desk. "Haven't put it on."

Miyu's shoulders dropped. "Y/n! You have to get used to walking on it!"

"I am used to walking on it," I huffed, picking the soldering iron up. "Doesn't mean it's comfortable to wear."

Miyu retrieved my prosthetic leg, waving it at me warningly. "You're the one who made it! If you don't wear it, you'll never get used to it! Isn't there something you can do to make it a bit more comfortable to wear? Like some padding or something on the inside?"

"It's...not the prosthetic that isn't comfortable," I muttered. She sighed and placed it back down.

"What is it, Y/n?" She asked.

"It still feels like it's there," I mumbled. "I keep getting up and falling 'cause I'm trying to walk on something that isn't there. But when I wear the prosthetic, it's like...it feels like it's suffocating me."

"The doctor said something about a phantom limb and phantom pains," She said, rubbing my shoulders. "They say it's normal to feel like that. I know it's hard, but you know we're all here to help you."

"Yeah, till Jonah or Eiji run off with my damn leg," I grumbled.

"Come on," Miyu said. "Why don't you come inside and get out of this stuffy garage for a while? Mom's making dinner. I'm sure she'd enjoy your company."
