[Chapter Fourty]

I stared down at the tips of my boots. They were scuffed from my constant movement back and forth against the concrete. My arms were folded across my chest as I leaned against the wall outside of Katsuki's room.

I didn't know why I wouldn't just walk into his bedroom. I did it all the time. But now, something felt like it was holding me back, preventing me from walking in. I don't know why, but when I ran my gaze over his name engraved on the door, I felt guilt swirl inside of me.

I couldn't bring myself to disturb him, so I left. I couldn't sleep, and rather than pace the halls and wake my other classmates up with my steps, I walked outside. I sat on the steps, one arm draped over my lap with my leg extended out, the other propped on my knee as I cradled my head in my palm.

"Y/n...that's you...isn't it?"

Slowly, I lifted my head. My gaze fell on the figure standing across from me, a few meters away from the steps. My guard immediately rose, my chest tightening at the man dressed in dark clothing.

I grabbed the railing and pulled myself up, shifting my feet under me. I squinted, my eyebrows furrowing together as I watched the man reach up and remove the hood from his face.

I felt sick instantly. His cerise eyes were heavy, dull and lifeless. His skin was so much paler, and he looked sickly. His blonde hair was a bit longer than before, long enough for him to pull it back with a hair tie.

"I'm not here to hurt you, so please don't feel afraid," He said softly. "I...actually came here for help."

He didn't move from his spot. When I didn't speak, he continued.

"I heard about what you did to Kimina. I want you to know that you did the right thing by stripping her quirk. You did the right thing when you stripped my quirk. We were dangerous people; murderers. I can't speak for Kimina's motives and her reasons, but I can tell you that what you said to me—all of it was true."

He rubbed the back of his neck, closing his eyes with a quiet sigh.

"I had an older brother. We had the same quirk, but his quirk was more developed than what mine was. I was bullied when I was younger, and when he found out about it, he was always there to stop it. He saved me. I looked up to him,"

He met my gaze, almost reluctantly. He let his hand fall to his side.

"Then he met All for One. He became power hungry. He left me behind. He didn't care about me any more. He never came home. All he wanted was to be stronger."

I noticed that his hands were beginning to shake. He slowly closed his eyes, and I watched as his face scrunched up, his eyebrows lacing together in distress as he released a choked sob, his shoulders jerking as tears rolled down his cheeks. He stumbled forward, making me step back in surprise as he dropped to my feet, his hands grabbing my ankles as he lowered his forehead to the sidewalk.
