Shures Valley | St. Catherine |
The following morning, I woke up to a text message on my phone from my brother.
My brother, Isiah, resides in the United States and serves in the US Air Force. He lives with his girlfriend and their 9-month-old daughter, whom I haven't had the opportunity to meet since he has never brought them here. However, they are expected to accompany him this Christmas. Isiah and I share a mother who passed away a few months after I was born due to complications arising from my birth. Eleven years later, my father had my twin sisters, Isabella and Isla, with another woman. Currently, the twins live with their mother, Sasha, in the town area of Shures Valley, which is just a short distance from our house. Since I also moved away, I don't have the chance to see them as frequently, but I do talk to them every week, and Isiah regularly sends them money.
After reviewing my account balance, I proceeded to send a confirmation message to my brother, informing him of my plans, and another message to Sasha, instructing her to prepare the girls and pack their bags, as I would be picking them up at 10 o'clock. Since there was no food in the house, I decided to combine the trip by picking them up while going grocery shopping in the nearby city. In haste, I created a grocery list on my phone and then sent a text in the family group chat, inviting anyone who wanted to come along.
Unfortunately, Shani couldn't join us as she had work commitments, and Lana was away with their mother. However, Tara had no plans, so she gladly accepted and confirmed that she would come along.
We had a huge grocery shopping spree ahead of us, with a ridiculously long list of stuff we needed to refill our pantry. To simplify things, we divided up the shopping duties. The twins and Tara got their own shopping cart and were allowed to grab whatever groceries they fancied. They were over the moon with excitement and chatted non-stop about what they were picking.
While all that was going on, Zaire and I went off on our own adventure to hunt down all the must-have stuff on our shopping list. We handpicked the things we absolutely couldn't live without for the next few days. As we strolled through the busy supermarket, the delicious smells drifting from the nearby food court teased our senses. And right then, as tiredness started creeping in from the massive shopping spree, the idea of cooking a meal from scratch seemed pretty intimidating.
