Friday, March 10, 2023Dad had a big frown on his face as he watched the recording from the back camera of the Honda that India was driving. Zaire and Liam were also in the room watching, even though they knew how serious things were. The footage's contents made all of us feel tense and furious, as we witnessed India in a distressed state, maneuvering the vehicle unpredictably through the streets of Kingston.
The Recording (In India's POV) - Tuesday, March 7
I felt a lump in my throat when I saw the car once more-a simple white Axio. I had been noticing that car since I arrived on campus this afternoon. It was there at the traffic light at Sovereign, and it followed me onto campus, but I didn't think much of it at the time. Everything seemed normal then. However, after my class, I made a few stops, and that car was always there, lurking in the shadows.
My final stop was at General Foods to pick up some groceries. As I finished shopping and headed to a small pizza place in the mall, I saw the car again, and it startled me. I immediately messaged Liam to inform him of the situation. Zaire was not in Jamaica; he had to assist his dad with something in New York. So, my current confidants are Liam and Dimitri.
Being on high alert, I got into my car and started the engine, carefully observing if it would provoke any reaction from the other vehicle. To my astonishment, it did, as their car started up immediately as well. I couldn't make out who was behind the wheel or any distinguishing details. Determined to lose them, I pulled out of the parking lot and merged into the bustling traffic on Old Hope Road, hoping to blend in and make it harder for them to track me.
Taking a spontaneous course of action, I decided to take a shortcut next to the bank, aiming to shake off the pursuing car. However, to my dismay, the car followed me onto the same road, persistently tailing me as if their sole purpose was to pursue me. As we were the only ones on the road, my anxiety grew, and I started to regret my choice, realizing I was now on a secluded road with an unidentified person relentlessly following my every move.
I pushed down on the accelerator, maneuvering through sharp corners with the hope of avoiding collisions, and swiftly merged back into the flow of traffic on the main road. Desperation drove me to weave frantically through the narrow gaps between cars, desperately trying to shake off the persistent vehicle. A surge of panic overwhelmed me as I realized there seemed to be no way out of this distressing situation. Though my anxiety warned me that continuing at such a reckless pace could lead to something terrible, my fight-or-flight instincts took over, compelling me to keep going.
As I reached the turnoff to Red Hills, the traffic started to thin out, giving me a chance to speed up. I was zooming at a crazy 160 mph on those crappy roads, but that fucking car was still hot on my tail. It hit me that I couldn't let them find out where I live. There was too much risk involved as I don't know the severity of the situation, especially with Polly's safety in mind as well. So, when I saw the next turn coming up, I made a quick decision and took it, hoping it would help me put some distance between us.
