Wednesday| August 24, 2023|A month has passed since our return to Jamaica, and during this time, significant changes have taken place in our lives. When we arrived in Jamaica, Zaire pleasantly surprised me with an extraordinary gift-a beautiful house that we now call our home. Ever since that momentous day, we have been living together in our cozy haven, building a life filled with love and shared dreams in Jamaica.
Since moving into our new home, we've had the pleasure of hosting numerous parties and gatherings. The house, with its generous space, proved to be more than enough for just the two of us. Zaire said he had considered our possible future family when choosing this place, ensuring that it would be a perfect fit for future kids, if any.
Our new abode is situated in the exclusive Hidden Hills, a secluded and tranquil gated community located in the lush hills of St. Andrew. The privacy and serenity of the location add to the charm of the house, making it an ideal haven to create lasting memories with our friends and loved ones.
I had recently returned to Kingston after a visit to my family in Shures Valley. I shared the situation between Isiah and myself with everyone, and it led to my uncles living abroad travelling to New York to confront him in person. Needless to say, everyone was displeased that he took things to such an extreme, and some have even publicly disowned him for his actions. As for me, I have mixed feelings about the whole ordeal. While I still care for my brother, I find it hard to forgive him. Despite his efforts to reach out and apologize, I've been deliberately avoiding any contact with him.
Fortunately, I've managed to maintain communication with my niece through my wonderful sister-in-law, who was deeply affected when she learned the reason behind my abrupt departure. Their wedding plans have been put on hold as she is currently five months pregnant and is contemplating her options. I hold no grudges against her if she chooses to stay with Isiah since he's the father of her children and someone she deeply loves. Ultimately, the decision rests with her.
A few weeks ago, on Independence Day, we attended a cookout at the Leslie family house in Montego Bay. Surprisingly, his mother approached me and initiated a conversation. We hadn't interacted much since the incident on New Year's Day, mainly because her work kept her occupied whenever I was around. During our talk, she sincerely apologized for her past behavior and expressed a desire for a fresh start between us. While I wasn't particularly enthusiastic about building a close mother-in-law relationship, I also didn't want to hold onto unnecessary tension. I believe in making peace, so why continue dwelling on the past when we can put the issues behind us? The barbeque turned out to be a pleasant event, and everyone had a great time throughout the day and into the night.
For the holiday, more of my in-laws flew in and drove down to join the gathering, giving me the opportunity to meet them. I discovered that as Jamaicans, they hold great pride with Independence and Emancipation Days, and they make it a point to gather every August. Some of them reside in Richmond Estates, St. Ann, while others, mainly Zaire's paternal grandparents and great-grandparents, live in the exclusive community of Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, USA. I was quite amazed to learn this, as the area is known for its affluence and is home to some of the wealthiest individuals in America.
