"Meera,go get ready.I have kept a dress for you." meera's mother said to Meera as she entered taking a mud pot filled with water.
"Why Maa, are we going somewhere? "
Asked Meera to her mother as she kept the pot down and settled beside her."Naa chori, we are not going anywhere. We have got proposal for your marriage beta. A family is coming to fix your alliance with their son."
Meera smile vanished, "But nobody asked or even told me?"
"Bawri ho gai hai kya laddo, choriyo se puche hai kya koi kabhi aur tujhe bata to rahi hu na abh".
"We never thought we would get alliance for you from such a big family. You are lucky Meera" her mother patted her head lovingly."Go get ready nicely "
Meera was suddenly feeling very nervous and tensed. She knew sooner or later ,her family will get her married to someone they will choose for her. But she didn't knew day will come so soon.
---
Meera was sitting in her room looking out of the small window. She was fidgeting her fingers in nervousness.
She was a kind of girl who liked to stay in her own company rather than being around unknown people. She had a playful side but that was reserved for her family only.
She was shivering with the thought that those people will actually judge her based on her looks and behavior.
Her sister came running to her, "didi, Jamaisa and Sadhya didi's inlaw have come along with three other people. "
Those three other people must be from groom's family.
Meera tried to peep out of the window but couldn't see much. She heard the people gossiping and laughing outside.
Soon her mother came in the room, "laddo come they want to see you."Her mother adjusted the veil properly on Meera's head that it was somehow coming over her eyes.
She handed her a tray filled with cups of tea. She took her to the area where the guest were sitting.
Meera served everyone the tea. Everyone was looking at her and her nervousness just increased. Meera casted her eyes down, her heart hammering hard against her chest.
She stood in the corner beside her mother. When one lady other than Sadhya's mother in law came and lifted her veil and peeped in to take a look of her face..
The lady was impressed by her beauty, " what's your name girl?"
"M-meera" Meera answered which felt almost like a whisper. Her eyes were still down. "How old are you?"
" seventeen" Meera replied and the lady hummed at her.
After that, Meera was taken back to her room. Meera went back in the room but she was confused who might be the person her family has choosed for her.
She couldn't see much with the veil on. But she really wanted to see the man who will be her life partner.
"Bhaisa, we already like your daughter for our son". The old man who was groom's father and was sitting with Sadhya's father in law spoke up.
" there is yes from our side too" Meera's father said joining his hands in front of them.
"If both the parties are agreed to the alliance then let us talk about the dahej"
The lady said." Ji, I am a small farmer. I don't know if I can stand upto your standards but I will try my best to fulfill my duties as a father."
"Atleast give 20grams of gold and silver and some cattles. My son is the mukhya of the village. Anyone would have given more than this for marrying my son to their daughter. But my son has already choosed your daughter. "
" Okay, I will arrange everything " The things were difficult for meera 's father to arrange but he still agreed for the better future of his daughter.
Both the parents congratulated each other as their children's marriage got fixed. Meera's mother brought sweet and gave to everyone.
Meera's parents were more than happy.
