19| Conflicted Thoughts

As soon as he realized it, his skin became infested with black veins pulsing red. It hurt so bad he could barely describe it. The pain and Yin energy circulating in his hand travelled itself all over his body. The unsightly veins reached his face and crossed through his eyes turning his silver orbs to a flickering fiery crimson red. It proceeded to his torso and latched onto his heart. Wei Ying had to grabbed at his chest as it became hard to breath with all the Yin energy coursing through him.

He unintentionally had to drop Wen Ning to the ground. His body fell with a soft thud. Wei Ying himself fell to the side to avoid dropping himself on top of Wen Ning's unconscious body. The waterbender got on his knees and groaned as the Yin energy continued to torment his entire being with so much pain.

The corpse he absorbed Yin energy from, dropped its head down and simply started to passed by him. It stopped bothering him, no longer in pursuit of his flesh. The corpse's body was still oozing with the black smoke as it left him and disappeared into the forest. The three corpses that remained were unmoving at a short distance away from them.

"Why..." Wei Ying whimpered out a question. He didn't understand.

He couldn't think of a rational explanation that could make him comprehend what just happened nor what was even happening now. His face was still infested with the throbbing veins painfully pulsing with the Yin energy now all over him. His eyes hurt so much. He wasn't aware how they kept flickering into a full white glow that were red on the edges. It hurt to keep his eyes open.

"Wei Wuxian!" Jiang Cheng shouted.

Wei Ying looked up and saw Jiang Cheng finally arrive with the two Jades. He jumped off from Lan Huan landing beside him. He made motions with his hands that the water followed, his waterbending at the ready to use for defense as he saw the remaining corpses. Their arrival made Wei Ying forget his condition. Just as he no longer focused on the Yin energy that entered his body, the thin veins faded away from his face with his eyes changing back to his normal silver irises. He felt the heavy weight on his chest leave and he was suddenly light headed. Wei Ying felt like falling to the ground.

"Here!" Jiang Cheng threw over to Wei Ying his water filled pouch for him to use.

The three remaining corpses then ran to attack the three newcomers. Lan Zhan and Lan Huan shut closed their gliders into their staffs. They quickly used them to help enhance regulating the air to their command and used a forceful wind to attack the corpses charging at them. They successfully blasted the fierce corpses to a long distance away from them. Jiang Cheng controlled the water left in his pouch. He used the water, turning it into razor sharp ice and then  stabbed it through the chest of one of the corpses. He watched a hole punctured through and its rotten body fell to the ground twitching. Jiang Cheng then noticed Wei Ying had not move or made action to help. Rather, he remained kneeled to the ground and had yet to take the water pouch.

"What? Too scared to even use your waterbending?" Jiang Cheng jabbed. He thought the older waterbender might now be too tired to fight.

"No...no such thing." Wei Ying replied trying to mask his weakened state. He reached out for the pouch with his trembling hand. 

As he laid his hand on the pouch, Jiang Cheng caught sight of his pale hands with black and red pulsing veins and small remnants of black smoke circulating around him. Jiang Cheng's eyes widened in disbelief as he came to a conclusion of what it was. He was absolutely mortified after recognizing it immediately as Yin energy.

"You..." Jiang Cheng tried to speak.

However, he was unable to say nor move from the shock, too frozen in his feet when the other corpses went running to attack him. But thankfully the Twin Jades used a powerful airblast to push all corpses off the ground and made a tremendous impact against the trees. Rendering them to become finally still.
