The conclusive day came. Classes were over, and the youth rejoiced. They are excited to leave the excessively rule-driven place and return to their respectful sects. The ranking of their efforts in class was posted just outside the Orchid Room, on a parchment paper written in someone's careful and neat calligraphy.
The disciples were piling up and pushing each other to take a look at where they were placed. Most people were happy with their positions, but some grumbled in dissatisfaction, claiming they could've gotten higher with their best efforts.
The three, Wei Ying, Jiang Cheng, and Nie Huisang, arrived at the scene. The two waterbenders were confused over whatever it was that the other disciples were so insistent on looking at. Nie Huisang was the only one aware of the source of the commotion. He pushed through the crowd, giving an apology if he pushed too hard. Soon, he successfully reached the front and searched for his own ranking. He saw his name in the tenth place. Seeing this, he felt relieved and very happy. This meant he had improved and could finally be enough to convince his older brother to never make him return here to Gusu for classes ever again. Nie Huisang next looked for Wei Ying and Jiang Cheng's names. His eyes diverted from the bottom to the top, and he was half surprised at where he found their names. He then easily pushed through again, the thinner crowd reaching back to the two waterbenders that stayed behind, waiting for him.
Nie Huisang flipped his fan open looking impressed.
"Bro Wei, Bro Jiang. You two are really awesome. How can you both tie with the Twin Jades? Are the Prides of Yunmeng trying to challenge Gusu's?" he commented.
"Tie? I didn't even know we had a ranking system." Wei Ying blurted out.
"It is true. You ranked 1st, along with Lan Wangji and Bro Jiang, tied for second with Xichen-ge." Nie Huisang said.
"What nonsense are you spouting?!" Jiang Cheng barked.
"I am talking nothing but the truth Bro Jiang. See for yourself." Nie Huisang pointed at the posted paper.
Jiang Cheng just huffed and stomped his way to the front. Pushing others with extreme force on purpose.
"Out of my way!"
Wei Ying chuckled seeing his didi push through the crowd looking exactly like an angry bull.
"I heard we will be making sky lanterns later!" he said, turning to Nie Huisang.
"Yes, this is true. It's been a tradition at the end of every class. They allow us to send lanterns into the skies and make our prayers or wishes before we leave." Nie Huisang confirmed
"I can't wait! I already have a drawing that I plan to paint on my lantern." Wei Ying exclaimed as he jumped, looking excited.
"Will you be making a lantern on your own Bro Wei?" Nie Huisang inquired.
"Ah? The lantern making can be shared with others?" Wei Ying questioned.
Nie Huisang nodded.
"I believe you'll be making one with Bro Jiang?" he assumed.
Wei Ying looked at Jiang Cheng. He saw him push a disciple too harshly since that person was standing exactly in front of him. It made him unconsciously shake his head sideways. As much as he cared and loved his shidi, Wei Ying believed that Jiang Cheng would handle their lantern a bit too roughly for his own liking. Also, he might not agree to have him paint the drawing he had in mind.
"Who does Lan Zhan make lanterns with?" Wei Ying asked.
"He always does it alone." Nie Huisang answered.
