Looking through the windshield of the truck, I saw that we were approaching a quarry. As Morales kept driving, a bunch of tents soon came into view. Clothing lines were set up, a makeshift fire pit took its place in the middle of the camp, and a whole group of people filled the area. Survivors, just like me and the rest of the people in this truck. People sticking together to endure the new world.Andrea opened the door and rushed out, I followed behind her, stepping out of the truck and breathing in the fresh air. Looking ahead, I saw Andrea running up to a blonde woman and engulfing her into a hug. They separated, and I examined the unknown girl's face. I'm assuming they're sisters.
It made me think of my own sisters. During the ride here, I imagined myself seeing them again, being reunited. But upon arriving, their faces were nowhere to be seen. Obviously. It was stupid to even think I'd find them. Watching everyone else reunite with their friends and family, I was hit with a pang of jealousy and sadness.
"How'd y'all get out of there anyways?" A man asked, stepping forward to us.
"New guy. He got us out." Glenn explained, getting out his red car he had driven here.
"Yeah, crazy vato just got into town," Morales added with a chuckle. "Hey, Helicopter Boy! Come say hello!"
I felt a hand on my shoulder, and turned around to see Jacqui.
"Come meet everyone." She pulled me along. I was a little hesitant and nervous, but she insisted I introduce myself to at least a few people.
She introduced me to Morales' wife and children, and a man named Jim. I was glad to see that they were pretty nice, and I felt like I could be good friends with them.
As Jacqui filled them in on what happened back in the city, I looked to my right and saw Rick engulfing a woman and a little boy into a hug. They wrapped their arms around each other lovingly, tears falling from their eyes.
He found his family.

"Disoriented. I guess that comes closest." Rick spoke.
Everyone sat around the campfire now, Rick had his arm around his wife as he told his story on how he came to be in the city. He said something about waking up in a hospital, I don't know. I wasn't really paying attention.
"Words can mean meager things. Sometimes they fall short." An older man I had come to know as Dale said in response. He was nice and kind-spoken, I liked him.
"I felt like I'd been ripped out of my life, and put somewhere else," Rick continued. "For a while, I thought I was trapped in some sort of coma dream."
Honestly, I could relate to his words. When I had stepped out of that apartment, the moment the sun hit my face– it felt like I was in another dimension. Nothing seemed real as I walked down those empty, silent streets. It still doesn't feel real, in a way.
