Eddie's POV:

It's been about a week since Buck got out of the hospital and while the pain is getting better, his nightmare is getting worse. He has gotten barely any sleep and I am starting to get really worried about him. I'm sitting at the table with Chris, him eating a bowl of cereal and me drinking a cup of coffee. I have a 24-hr. shift today and I am not looking forward to it. I really don't like leaving Buck here alone. A familiar voice echoed through the house "Heyyyy, is anyone here?" It was Carla.

Eddie: Hey Carla! Me and Christopher are just about to head to school!

Christopher: Carlaaaaa! He goes over to her and gives her a hug.

Carla: Hey Chris! That sounds good Eddie! I will pick him up after school and I will stay here and take care of your Buck today. She emphasizes your part by looking at me. I can feel my face heat up.

Christopher: Yes, take care of our Buck well why we are away Carla. He laughs.

Eddie: Alright I think it is time for us to go.

Carla: I will see you both later Goodbye!

Me and Christopher pile up into my truck and head off to Chris' school. Once we get there I watch as he walks up and meets his friends and walks in. Okay now, time to go and face this shift. I walk in and am greeted by the smell of Cap's cooking filling the fire house.

Chimney: Hey, there he is!

Hen: It's about time you showed up.

Eddie: Sorry I'm running late; traffic was not my friend taking Chris to school.

Bobby: That's fine Eddie. Why don't you go and get dressed then join us for breakfast.

I walk downstairs to the locker room and get dressed into my uniform. I stand there and stare at Buck's locker. It is still not the same without him here. God what I would give to have Buck here. I stand there looking at his locker for God knows how long, my trance only being broken by a hand being placed on my shoulder. I turn around to be met by Bobby's worried gaze.

Bobby: Eddie this is the 5th time I've caught you doing this in 4 shifts. What is going on with you?

Eddie: I don't know Cap. I just miss Buck being here, working, when nothing was wrong. I mean yeah, I see him every day when I get home from work, but it isn't the same here without him.

Bobby: He takes a seat on the bench, and I join him. I know you miss Buck here, hell all of us do, tremendously. It's hard but we have to keep fighting, he will be back here with us. I can promise you that.

Eddie: I just... I can't stand seeing him like this! I can feel tears threatening my eyes.

Bobby: I know you care about Buck. I know you love him. The best thing to do right now is be strong for him. I give him a nod.

Eddie: You're right. But I do have a question to ask you?

Bobby: Ask away.

Eddie: I'm not really sure how to word this honestly. I've also been meaning to ask you this for a while. Do you think I should um... you know, tell Buck about my feelings for him?

Bobby: He stops and thinks for a few before speaking up, honestly that is up to you Eddie. Do what you think is right.

Before either one of us could spit out another word, the alarm went off. We both got up and loaded up into the fire engine. We ended up responding to a call about some lady who got stuck in a second story window. It was an easy call, and also a quick call. Time skip to about 3AM.

I get woken up to the sound of my phone going. "Ugh, what time is it?" I look at my phone time and it reads 3AM. Holy shit who would be calling me at this hour? I picked up the phone without even looking at the contact.

Eddie: Hello? My voice is raspy and dry.

Carla: Oh, thank goodness you picked up Eddie.

Eddie: Carla?! I immediately sit up straight on my bed now fully awake. Is everything okay? What's going on?

Carla: It's Buck... She pauses and my heart drops. He went to bed about an hour ago and now he won't stop screaming. Nothing is helping. It seems like he is still caught up in the nightmare he had. I am so sorry Eddie; I don't know who else to call.

Eddie: Okay, take Chris out into the backyard to let him calm down and not have to hear Buck. I am on my way.

With that I hang up the phone and wake up Cap. I explain my situation and he let me go. I practically sped the entire way to my house. Carla and Chris are sitting out in the front yard playing a board game. I jump out of my truck and rush up to them.

Christopher: Dad! Something is wrong with Buck!

Eddie: I know buddy, I'll go see if I can help him, you and Carla stay here and play your board game.

Christopher: Is Buck going to be okay dad?

Carla: Your dad will do everything he can.

I run into the house and can hear Buck's screaming as soon as I enter the door. I can feel my heart shatter into a million pieces hearing them. The screams are of nothing but pure terror. I run into my room and see Buck sitting on my bed cry and shaking while he continues to scream. I look at his face to see tears staining his face with more constantly falling, and his eyes are closed shut. I try to speak to him, "Hey Buck, Buck, It's me Eddie, it's okay you're safe. I am right here. Can you look at me?" Buck stops screaming but his eyes are still shut. He bursts out fully into tears now, and his breathing starts to hitch.

I sit down next to him and pull him into my lap. I know this isn't the best idea considering my feelings for him, but he needs me right now. I wrap my arms around him and give him a tight hug and not letting go. He buries his face into the crook of my neck and continues to cry. "It's okay Buck. I am right here; nothing can hurt you. Listen to me Evan, everything will be okay" He starts to calm down, but I don't let him go and he doesn't let me go. I slowly lay down putting him down on my chest as he starts to close his eyes. Eventually sleep took him over. I pull out my phone and message Carla.

Eddie: Hey, Buck is alright now you wanna go ahead and bring Chris back in?

Carla: Glad to hear Buck is doing better, poor thing.

Eddie: You can also head home, I'm not gonna go back to my shift. DO NOT mention what you are going to see in my room. It was the only way to calm down Buck, there is nothing going on between us.

With that I put my phone away and start to play with Buck's hair as he peacefully sleeps on my chest. I could get used to this. He seems so calm sleeping like this. I just hope he can stay that way for the rest of the night. He really needs his sleep. Right before I let sleep take me over I manage to whisper out "I'm right here Evan... I love you" and with that my eyes closed shut before I could even think about what I just said.
