"So, he's not my cousin?" Nayeon asked. "I don't think so. You're my cousin on my father's side and my parents have nothing to do with one another anymore." Y/N stated. "He should be here soon." Y/N checked on the time. She had invited her half-brother to the cafe she worked at for a quick lunch. Another reason was Nayeon wanted to meet him. "How are you and the girls?" Nayeon teased with a smirk on her face. "It's been going well. There's been a lot of texting and calling." Y/N shyly responded. "Okay," Nayeon now has a curious expression after noticing her cousin's expressions. "Why is your face like that?"
"Like what?" Y/N asked. She was failing on trying to hide the fact that something was up.
"What's wrong?" Nayeon, being how she usually is, wasn't going to let the topic go. "Did something happen between the girls and you?" Y/N frantically shook her head, "No! Nothing happened. Everything is going well with the four of them." Nayeon took a bite of the piece of cake and gave a look to Y/N who knew there was no escaping. "I'll tell you when I am ready, alright?" Nayeon gave a thumbs up. Y/N went over to clean some tables while Nayeon got on her phone. "Noona," Nayeon heard a man's voice from behind her. She turned and saw Y/N greeting someone she knew now was her half-brother. After making eye contact, Nayeon headed on over.
"Doyun, this is Nayeon." Y/N introduced them. The man held out a handshake and Nayeon hesitantly accept it. "Nayeon, he is my brother. Doyun, she is my cousin." Y/N attended to him since he was a paying customer. After serving him a hot cup of coffee, Y/N joined Nayeon again. "So, what's your opinion on him?" Nayeon shrugged, "A man." Y/N rolled her eyes and told her to be serious. "He's okay, I guess? I still can't believe you have a brother." Nayeon put in some effort since Y/N wanted it. "I don't know. I don't get good vibes from him. Like, look, he keeps on glancing... Y/N?" Nayeon called out when Y/N had to greet customers who came in. She sipped her drink while keeping her eyes on her cousin's half-brother whose eyes kept going to the cash register.
"Do you need me to pay for your drink?" Nayeon approached him out of nowhere. "Oh my gosh! Can you give me some warning next time?" Doyun held his hand over his chest since he got shocked. Nayeon held her hands up in a surrender position before asking him again. "No, no. I asked Y/N noona which drink was the cheapest so I could afford it." He told, awkwardly. "Do you have some money situation or something? I mean, I can't help but notice that you keep glancing over to the case regis-" It was Nayeon's turn now to be in shock when Doyun suddenly stood up as if he was in a rush. "I don't need to answer you. We're not related." Nayeon watched him dig into his bag. He pulled out his wallet, a lighter and a pack of cigarettes. "Oh, you smoke?" Nayeon rose an eyebrow. He ignored her and walked over to Y/N who was standing behind the register. "Leaving so soon?" Y/N asked.
"Yeah," He chuckled, awkwardly. "More customers are coming in. I don't want to take some more of your time." He paid for his drink and got the change back. "Are you usually alone?" Y/N shrugged, "Normally, there should be two staff per shift but my colleague called in sick so it's just me right now." Doyun was taking mental notes. "You can call or text to know if I'm here." More notes were taken. "My cousin didn't scare you away, right?" Doyun forced himself to shake his head. "She seems nice. Is she protective over you?" Y/N laughed and nodded, "We are protective of each other." The siblings bid their goodbyes and promised to meet up next with their mother.
"Okay, what did you do?" Y/N asked as she approached Nayeon. "Drinking? Eating?" Nayeon pointed out the obvious. "What did you say to him?" Nayeon didn't answer so Y/N walked away. "I'm sorry." Nayeon came up to Y/N after some time. "I didn't say anything bad. I asked some questions. That's all." Y/N knew her cousin meant well so she told her she wasn't mad. "I think I want to get to know him. It doesn't mean I want to distance myself from you. You're more of a sister than a cousin to me. You know that, right?" Y/N ensured. "I know. I'm sorry. Maybe, I judge him too quickly." Nayeon took back her thoughts about Doyun. Y/N's shift ended an hour later. The cousins walked to their vehicles, bid their goodbyes, and headed, and headed home.
