*this one is pretty fucking sad.

"Eomma and appa are gonna kill you when we get home, Unnie!" Hyunseo chirped, giggling sweetly as she looked up at you. She linked arms with you. She was referring to the fact that you had been late to school today.

Your parents are well-known lawyers. But they're also well-known to you and Hyunseo for being strict.

The two of you are walking home. You had work immediately after school, and Hyunseo decided to join you.

You wish she hadn't.

"So wha-"

You were interrupted when two men ran up to you and pushed you and Hyunseo into the alleyway that you were passing.

You and Hyunseo fell to the damp ground, groaning afterwards.

"What the hell?" You looked over your shoulder to see someone on top of Hyunseo, their large hands wrapped around her neck as she wailed. You could see her turning purple.

Seeing that sent a rush of adrenaline through you, so much so that you used all of your strength to push the man on top of you away, jump up to your feet, and rush to your little sister. You quickly jumped onto the back of the man choking her, and he instantly shot up. He began to claw at you from behind and spin around, as you continued to hit him in the face as hard as you could. He eventually threw you down to the ground and began hitting you back twice as hard. He hit you until you were bleeding heavily. Your lip was busted, your eyes were swollen, and blood flowed freely from your nose.

With wide eyes, Hyunseo backed up against a wall and cried loudly as she tried to catch her breath, fearing for both of your lives. She just wanted to go home. How could the night end up like this?

You were also crying as you tried to block the man's hits, but you paused in your actions when you heard it.

An unfamiliar pop. There was no echo.

You sucked in a sharp breath. Hyunseo's scream pierced the air. She was hysterical now.

How could someone do this to another person? You don't get it. How could one do this to people so young? How? And why you? Why Hyunseo? If you could have one wish granted, it would be for Hyunseo to have not been with you.

Why do humans murder each other? You suppose you'll never understand now.

Your arms slowly dropped, and your head lulled to the side to look at Hyunseo. You wanted to tell her to get up. To run away. But you couldn't. She stood up and tried to run to you, but was grabbed by the other man and slammed back against the brick wall. The air was knocked out of her lungs.

And then another pop. You watched in horror as she gasped and her body slid down the wall. She slumped down until she was lying on the floor.

The two men took off after that, leaving you and Hyunseo alone.

"Hyun- Hyunnie," you called out weakly. Your voice trembled as tears cascaded down your blood-stained cheeks. You picked yourself up and did your best to drag yourself to the younger. You felt the blood seeping out of the bullet hole in your stomach, but you didn't care. You have to get to her.

After a moment, you reached her. You laid down next to her, and the two of you faced each other. You held her face in your hands tenderly. She was crying silently. She looked as if she was trying to get her words out, but she couldn't. Like she was choking. That's when you saw the blood spill past her lips. She coughed.

You whimpered and shook your head. "No... no, no, no," you whispered. You caressed her cheeks. "Hyunseo, h-hold on for Unnie. Hold- Hold on."

Her eyes looked distant as they stared into yours, but she mustered up a whisper of a smile.

"Unnie," she murmured. You hummed. Your heart broke watching her choke on her words once again. But once she got them out, you couldn't help but begin to cry loudly. "I love... I... I love you. So mu- So much."

"Hyunseo, no!"

Your chest burned. You kept caressing her cheek, even as her face relaxed and the last tear fell. You don't want to believe it. You can't. The two of you have been inseparable your whole lives. Why now? Why is now the time that you part ways? How could this happen?

"No..." Your voice came out as nothing more than a whisper this time. Your breathing was labored.

You sobbed loudly for a few moments, before, eventually, you coughed up blood of your own. It flowed past your lips like silk, splattering against the ground meaninglessly. You were still holding Hyunseo's face in your hands, crying silently.

Until you couldn't any longer.

The feeling wasn't as bad as you thought. You just felt really tired. You were going to take a long nap, one that you wouldn't wake up from.

We'll be together soon, you thought to yourself as one last tear slipped down your cheek.

Sirens could be heard in the distance. Someone must've heard your screams. It's too late now, though.

You carefully took your last breath, gazing into Hyunseo's lifeless eyes. And then, you were but a whisper of what you once were.

How could the night end like this?
