ive › car accident (pt. two)

When you awoke for a second time, it was to the sight of Jiwon slumped down in a wheelchair to the left side of your bed, asleep. Her arm was wrapped in a cast and lying limply across her abdomen as her chest rose and fell at a steady pace. The position looked rather uncomfortable, but there wasn't anything you could do about it. A nurse was sitting in the corner, doing paperwork.

"Jiwon-unnie," you called out. You teared up as you examined Jiwon's worn out complexion.

That was all it took for Jiwon's eyes to open. She quickly shook herself out of her sleepy state and put all of her attention on you. "Oh, God. Yoonah, you're okay! I had been dying to see you after I woke up, I was so worried!" She cried, wiping her tears quickly so that she could hug you as best she could with a broken arm in the way.

"Me t-too, Unnie," you whispered, nuzzling your nose against her neck.

Jiwon soon pulled away, only to pat your head and kiss your forehead and cheeks repeatedly. It almost seemed as if she was trying to reassure herself that you were okay and alive and here with her. After all, she had been the first one to notice the car back when it happened, and grab you to protect you. But she felt as though she failed, because you still ended up taking most of the damaged, compared to the rest of them.

"I'm so sorry that you got hurt, Gom-ah," Jiwon murmured as she looked into your eyes with a sad look in her own. "I wish I could've done more to protect you. I wish... that things turned out differently."

You carefully shook your head. "It's o-okay. Not- N- Not your fau- fault. Love you," you replied, trying to comfort her with your words since you couldn't move well.

"I love you too, honeybee. We all love you so much."

A few moments of silence passed before you swallowed thickly, your throat aching from talking. "Hyun...seo?"

That was all you needed to say for her to understand what you wanted. Jiwon nodded and called out to the nurse in the room, Nurse Lee. Nurse Lee nodded, having listened to the conversation, and went outside for a moment, presumably to ask a doctor if she could get some help in getting you to Hyunseo's room. Moments later, two doctors followed Nurse Lee back into your room.

Jiwon smiled softly at you as the two doctors grabbed ahold of your bed and began to carefully wheel you out of the room. Jiwon followed behind them, being pushed by Nurse Lee. You briefly closed your eyes.

You opened your eyes a few minutes later when you felt yourself being pushed into another hospital room. Hyunseo's. Your heartbeat sped up in anticipation of seeing your maknae. You could hear it beating loudly in your ears. It actually made you feel a bit lightheaded and dizzy, but you brushed it off and immediately tried to reach out for Hyunseo.

"Hyunnie!" You croaked out.

Your heart broke as you watched Hyunseo smile softly as she looked around. "Is- Is Yoonah-unnie here? Yoonah-unnie, is that you?" The maknae asked, voice light and hopeful. Her eyes were open and searching the room fruitlessly, as they seemed distant and unfocused. You were then reminded that she can't see anymore.

You began to cry, whimpers and sniffles spilling past your lips as your bed was pushed to be next to Hyunseo's. Hyunseo frowned softly and reached out her hand, not knowing where you were. Nurse Lee, who stayed in the room to assist Jiwon if she needed, cracked a small, empathetic smile and grabbed Hyunseo's hand, before grabbing yours as well and joining them. You and Hyunseo immediately laced your fingers together, relief overcoming both of your expressions. The happiness you felt was nearly indescribable.

"Unnie, I missed you," Hyunseo told you after a few moments of silence. "Please don't cry anymore. Smile for me."

"My- M-My maknae. My m-maknae," you repeated to yourself, stroking the back of Hyunseo's hand with your thumb. "I love- love you."

Hyunseo smiled brightly, despite the circumstances.

"I love you too, Unnie. Please don't cry anymore. Everything will be okay, because we're all together."
