A few weeks went by after Adrien learned that his mystery ladybug was Marinette, the preppy and annoyingly optimistic bluenette. While their relationship with their pen names was slowly growing, their real-life ones had come to a stop.

The reason? An emo freak with daddy issues was standing in their way. Adrien's words.

It was like he was competing for the girl's attention, and in Adrien's point of view, he was losing. Adrien hated losing.

If Marinette were to weigh a scale between Kitty and Luka: humor was the only thing on his end. As for Luka, she knew who he was, they were able to hang out just the two of them, and being the hippie guitarist that he was, he sounded charming.

Of course, this was just Adrien picking him apart by himself in his mind. He had no idea what Marinette felt for this boy. And it drove him crazy. He wasn't the type to degrade himself, but it seemed like he wasn't even on the playing field.

Adrien had never met Luka, other than hearing from other students like Juleka, Ivan, and Rose. They've made a little band or something and perform every Friday night at Juleka's mom's boat. And unfortunately for Adrien, he's on the way to watch this lame concert.

Why he even agreed to go was purely because Marinette was going to be there. He didn't like the fact that they talked every night, every morning, probably every hour, just like how he would. Sometimes when he wasn't able to text Marinette as Kitty, she would still giggle at her phone reading the messages Luka had probably sent.

"This guy must be a comedian," Adrien commented sarcastically, shoving a fork onto a tater-tot, gritting his teeth as he stared at the girl gripping her phone close to her face with an ear-to-ear grin.

Marinette's ears perked up hearing Adrien's two cents and rolled her eyes, placing her phone down on their cafeteria table and then began to focus on her food. "It's just Luka," she replied.

"Yeah," he propped his elbow on the table and fisted his cheek with an impatient scowl on his face. "I know."

Marinette raised a brow at Adrien's sudden attitude, "It's too early for you to be grumpy, Adrien." the bluenette giggled, in an attempt to start their morning playful arguments. "Don't tell me you're sad because you have to eat breakfast alone with me."

Adrien stayed quiet.

That was not the case for Adrien. He liked having quality time alone with the bluenette. Yes, they would do nothing but throw petty remarks at each other. But even Marinette had to agree that their friendship had grown to like that part of their routine. And yes, Marinette knows that somehow along the way, the two became friends. Maybe it's because of their project together, or the many times Adrien had dropped her off at her bakery, or because there would never be any awkward air around them even when it's only the two of them.

But for the first time, she could feel that something was bothering the blonde. "Seriously Adrien, what's wrong?" the model is usually quick with his comebacks, and there was no way that he needed a minute to think of how to tease her. His abnormal silence was deafening.

He faced the tater-tot he was playing with, but he slowly brought his eyes to stare at the bluenette in front of him, who had a worried look on her face. He shrugged, "just stressed. About work, I guess."

"Must be hard being a model / CEO's son, huh." It was hard, but that was not the reason he felt like he had no energy right now. "Well, hey, at least your dad gave you a day off for Friday, right? It'll be so much fun-- Luka's boat is actually--"
