The night of Prom.
Everything was going absolutely great, according to plan, and right on schedule. At least on Adrien's side. Nino had finally grew the balls to ask Alya out, so their dates were acquired. Hence the entire school's grumble when learning Adrien had ASKED Marinette to Prom.
How they knew? Alya Cesaire and her freaking blog. But did it bother Adrien in the slightest? No, of course not. He was the one who tipped the brunette before it happened. Who do you think set up the candles and roses on the balcony. He wanted everyone to know about his feelings. Confirm it. Read it and weep it. Marinette was Adrien's. Period.
Marinette on the other hand? Freaking out. She begged Alya to take it down, but thousands of people had already seen it. It would've changed nothing. Besides, Adrien had paid her to keep it up no matter how much Marinette would give her the puppy dog eyes.
So again, smooth sailing from here. Or at least Adrien had hoped. He had scheduled his stylist to get Marinette and Alya ready for the Prom while the two boys waited downstairs of Marinette's bakery, playing video games with her dad.
It was Tom's idea. To play games. He could tell Adrien was dying to see Marinette already so suggested a way to cool his nerves and ease his patience. But it wasn't long until she came down.
Finishing her last touches of makeup, Marinette sat nervously. She couldn't believe how pretty she looked. It seemed like a movie where the ugly unlikely girl had became a whole different person when she takes off her glasses. But this was that exact scene, and she just couldn't believe it could happen to her.
Her legs jumped continuously, as she waited for a certain someone to text her back. Ever since Adrien had asked her out to Prom, Chat Noir and Ladybug's conversation was starting to slowly die out.
And this was what Marinette was so afraid of. It felt like she was getting married, and she was losing her unforgettable lover by the second. But only she were to blame for this.
The past few weeks Ladybug was replying less, and the gap in time between the two's messages were jumping from minutes, to hours, to HOURS, to even the whole day. She hated how she didn't find the time to text back Chat Noir but she couldn't help it. She was with Adrien for almost every waking second. It felt like he meant what he said when he wanted her all to himself. And Marinette absolutely loved it.
She loved spending time with Adrien. All their petty fights turned to flirty exchanges. All their glares turned into winks. All their hair tugging, light and playful slaps, turned into kisses on her knuckles and wrapping his hands around her waist any chance he got.
But at the end of each day, she still thought of Chat Noir.
She had told Chat Noir about Prom, and how her classmate had asked her. Chat wanted to know if it was serious between them, or if she liked him the way he liked her. But always, she avoided the question. Not because she didn't feel that way for Adrien, but because she did. She was starting to like Adrien Agreste. And she couldn't say that to Chat, not when he's waited for her for years.
But she couldn't deny it anymore. She had to tell him. Tell both of them. She had to put an end to her affair...
With Chat Noir.
She was going to tell Chat that she loved someone else. And that they couldn't talk anymore. It broke her heart to break the promise she had made to him about always having him in her heart. But she couldn't handle the guilt or thought of having both. It wasn't fair and it wasn't like Marinette to lead anyone on.
