As soon as Adrien left for home, Marinette walked back recalling her conversation with him. And all she could think about was' How likely was it for Chat Noir and Adrien Agreste to be in the same living situation?"
That had to be the only explanation for it. But the thought still haunted her in the back of her mind. Marinette would never understand their pain and struggles, and the optimistic side of hers couldn't possibly imagine how parents could ever neglect their child. But it must happen often if it could happen to those two. 2 completely different people.
Marinette took her phone out and looked at the few messages she had gotten today. The most notable texts were from Chat Noir and Adrien.
"Good morning! <3" - Chat Noir.
"Thx for dropping me off home, Mari." "Let me know once your home, okay?' Marinette smiled reading his message.
Normally in this scenario, she would undoubtedly text back Chat Noir first, especially since she hadn't texted him the whole day, (which was very unlikely of her) but instead, opened the blondes message. "I'm home now!! Thx for spending time with me and my family!"
A second later, 3 bubbles popped up on his side. "Thx for having me, invite me again sometimes, *winky face*."
"You'd like that, wouldn't you? *rolling eye emoji*"
"If that means seeing you again."
Marinette giggled, unaware of the heat creeping up on her cheeks. "You just can't get enough of me, can you? Missing me already?"
Somehow, one day, in between their little banters every school day, Adrien had always included flirting mixed in with their arguments. This was nothing new to the two. But this time, the blonde smirked, maybe he was reaching but, was Marinette finally flirting back with him? Had her impenetrable walls begin to crack?
"I always do." And before he could send that text to the bluenette, his phone's notification from a messaging app dinged.
"Good morning, kitty." "Sorry i couldn't text you today." -Ladybug.
"That's alright, milady. Busy?" - Chat Noir.
"Actually, a friend of mine came over. He helped cooked breakfast for me and my family." Normally Adrien would blow over with jealousy after hearing the word 'HE', but being the HE she was referring to made him smile. Marinette was always honest.
"He? I'm a little worried." he joked. "Is he really just a friend?"
Marinette took a second to think to herself. Why? She didn't know why. Normally the answer would be clear, but the few moments they've had for the past few days, made her opinion of him change.
A friend. A month ago she wouldn't consider Adrien Agreste her friend. An annoying classmate, a thorn by her side, a stick in the mud, a boy who had a massive shoe shoved up his ass. All comments she used to say about the blonde before. But she couldn't bring herself to say those things about him now. Not especially after the sudden deep talk they had an hour ago.
"We used to hate each other, he's kinda growing on me."
"God, enemies to lovers. How am I gonna beat that." Marinette pursed her lips, this is exactly something Adrien would say to her. But she disregarded it.
"Don't worry kitty, you'll always have a special place in my heart."
"Even if you go off and get married to this 'friend' of yours?" Even though Chat Noir was teasing her, Marinette began to imagine a future where she had gotten married. No she wasn't thinking of getting married to Adrien specifically, but she still wondered what could ever happen to her online crush. Could she ever get married to someone if she still had unresolved feelings for a certain feline.
