I was silent for a few minutes trying to process what I had just heard...I was married or better said, I am married to this man who is my lieutenant?!
I don't even remember what my name is! Or who my family is...or where I live...how am I supposed to stay his wife?!
"Okay...so I'm married? Legally?" I asked getting the attention of everyone in the room.
"You are correct. We've been married for four years." Simon said.
"Why I can't remember anything?! What is this?!" I got a little upset again, I didn't understand why I couldn't remember...4 YEARS OF MARRIAGE...that's a long time...how can I forget that?!
"It's a traumatic brain injury, it can cause memory loss... But you're gonna recover, Sergeant. Your memories may come back over time... But you have to be patient, but you *will* recover." The doctor said as he looked at me and Simon.
So if he is my husband...
"But the most important thing right now is that you're here, Kaia.... You're alive... You're here...it doesn't matter if we have to start over to help you remember we will, what matters and will continue to matter is that you are alive." Simon said.
"Well, I'll leave you two alone. You know- any situation just touch the button. Good night." The doctor said goodbye and left with the nurses.
"We'll be out too...Soap will be here in the morning to take care of Kaia. Kaia...welcome back." The man with the beard and hat said walking out of the room along with the others.
I waited for them to leave and stayed looking at Simon. He took a seat next to me and began to stare at me without saying anything.
"Uh...who-who-who was that in the hat?" I asked.
"Captain John Price. Our captain." Simon replied.
I nodded my head in agreement and looked away...this was so weird.....
"And- and who is soap?" I asked again.
"The one that was standing next to Price, the one with the mohawk. He's a sergeant just like you, Johnny MacTavish. He's been looking after you while I've been in meetings."
"Oh...and-are they important to me?" I asked again.
"Well- I think so. We're all like family. So yeah."
Knowing that they really all knew me and that we had a relationship more than acquaintances...it made me feel bad...bad about myself. How could I forget them all? Including my own husband....
"I know... Kaia... I know it's a horrible situation to be in... and believe me, It's hard when there's so much I need to explain but don't know where to start... I promise you, Kaia... I will tell you all about your life." Simon told me.
"And what about yours? I need to get to know you again...after all-we were, no, sorry-we are a married couple." I said looking at him.
He was silent for a few seconds- "I know you want to know more about me like it's the first time...but let's better focus on you first."
"When and how did we meet?" I asked him.
"We'll get to that.... Kaia, but right now, you need to rest.... Your memory will come back... Over time... But until then, just try not to think about it too much. Just focus on recovering... I promise I will explain... I promise you... We'll talk it through but right now... Just try to get some rest... okay...?" Simon said as he intertwined his arms.
"Ok- okay." After that I fell asleep....
