May 1979:
Tears filled his eyes as he looked down at her, Lily squeezed his hands. "Dave, it'll be okay! We'll hang out over the summer. I'm sure I can come visit you!" Although he shook his head before he pulled his hands away and wiped his eyes.
Dave didn't say anything for a few moments as Lily looked down at his torn dirty sneakers. They have been friends for the past year that Dave lived in town. She knew he moved around a lot throughout his childhood but she wasn't expecting his family to leave at the very end of senior year. Lily was still a junior, although with Lily's maturity level and Dave's immaturity they got along very well.
"What about your band?" She desperately looked for answers trying to process that he was really leaving her, she might not even be able to see him at all this summer. Dave finally turned towards her with an angry stare in his eye, but his face looked emotionless. "I don't know Lily, alright?" He said harshly.
"Don't get upset with me. You're the one leaving, not me!" She reminded him looking up at him shocked he was taking his frustration out on her. "I haven't done anything to you!" His eyes grew more dead and the glare he was once giving her softened to a sad glow.
"I'm sorry, okay? I'm just upset because I don't want to leave. I'm sick of moving around so much." Lily reached for his hand and squeezed again. "Dave, you know you can call me. You can talk to me whenever you need to and we'll find time to spend together this summer."
Dave stepped closer and wrapped his arms around Lily's waist tightly, Lily wrapped her arms around his neck although he didn't tuck his head into the crook of her neck like she was expecting him to. He pressed his pink tinted lips against hers. He ran his tongue across her bottom lip, Lily pushed herself against him harder pulling her body towards him. She pulled away, taking a deep breath in before she looked down. "Dave, that's going to make it worse please." She begged him. "Lily, you mean so much to me, I'm so happy that you spent this year with me. I'm going to miss you." Lily pushed him away, tears filling her eyes, she turned away from him covering her face. She refused to show him how upset she was that he was leaving.
He walked her back home until they were standing outside of her front door, "Promise me you'll call me this summer okay?" Dave asked her as he held her waist, "I will, don't worry! I mean we're still best friends no matter how far we are from each other." He kissed the top of her head. She went inside of the house then waved him goodbye. He smiled softly and waved before walking away.
~ 7 years later ~
Lily lived with her father until she was 18, a year after Dave left. Lily felt helpless without her mother no matter how kind her father was at points it was hard to be without her mother. It's been 7 months since she passed, and her father wasn't doing well. Her parents had fought throughout her entire childhood although they refused to get divorce or even split. Once she turned 18 her father told her she needed to leave the house and start taking care of herself. After all the fighting and arguments between them she decided not to give him a fight on it. Packing her clothes, makeup, and valuables she left the house swiftly. Staying at friends house or sleeping in parks.
She felt disappointed by everyone around her. Her father didn't care to help her. Her mother wasn't there to help her anymore, and Dave. He hurt her the most. He hardly answered her calls and never called her. They called a few times at the beginning of the summer once he had moved again, yet he never answered her calls by the time July rolled around. Now it's been 6 years since then, Lily was worse than she ever imagined.
