A soft knock came on the bedroom door. Dave was laying in the bed, sweating heavily from the chemicals swimming through his veins. His mouth was dry, his pupils dilated, and his body was sore. "Dave, I'm sorry." Lily said through the door. Dave's chest rose and fell quickly, taking in short breaths, exhaling them just as quickly. "Talk to me please. At least let me in." Lily spoke again, Dave was unmoving, his sunken eyes staring at the door. The sun was rising over the Earth, casting its light through the thin clouds. "Honey..." the worry was now growing in Lily, anxiety was taking over. "Are you okay?" He didn't answer, he weakly moved his lips to reply but nothing came from his throat. The bag was empty, not a single gram left.

Lily grabbed the handle, rattling it. She tried desperately to open the door but it didn't budge. "Dave!" She yelled pushing her body against the door. His heart began to slow, the heartbeats separating. "Fuck." Lily ran down the stairs, she grabbed the phone with shaking hands. Her body shook as she dialed the number. A few minutes later there were sirens wailing down the street. Lily was sitting outside the bedroom, when she saw the blue and red lights flashing outside the house she ran to the front door and swung it open. Lily couldn't form words, she just led the police and fireman to the bedroom. When they finally got into the room, Dave was still in the same position. "Ma'am, has he taken anything?" Lily nodded frantically, she didn't dare enter the room. The fear controlled her body, terrified to possibly see his lifeless body laying on their bed. "I think he took coke." The officer nodded, he led Lily away from the bedroom.

A stretcher took Dave out of the house, Lily rushed after him, she got into the back of the ambulance with him grabbing his hand tightly. His breathing was still slow, and his eyes looked dead. She ran her hand over his head, "You're okay. You're going to be okay. You're so fucking stupid, though you know that?" Her eyes were welling up with tears now, Dave cracked a weak smile at her words. She kissed his cheek, "I love you so much." She wrapped her arms around his neck, burying her head in her arm.

Lily had called David and Victoria once they had gotten to the hospital, Dave was now laying in a hospital bed asleep. An IV in his arm and a mask over his mouth to control his breathing. Lily was pacing around the room, her back turned towards the door. David and Victoria rushed into the room, he put his hand on her shoulder. Lily grabbed David's hand and violently pushed him away. "Don't touch me." She spat, David took a step back, Victoria placed her hand on his back, rubbing it softly. "She doesn't mean it personally, she's just hurt and upset." The couple sat down, "Have they said anything?" Victoria asked Lily softly, "Other than the fact that he was a few minutes away from dying, no. They just put him in here and hooked him up to all this shit." Lily said, continuing the pace around the room.

A few minutes later a nurse came in, "Hi, how are you all doing." Lily stopped in her tracks, she looked up at the nurse, Lily's arms folded across her chest. She bit her tongue to keep herself from saying something sarcastically rude. "We're okay." David said, "We just want an update." The nurse set down the clipboard she was holding on the table beside the bed. "He'll be okay, but it'll take a few days for him to fully recover. He'll most likely be confused and overwhelmed when he wakes up so keep that in mind." The nurse took his vitals, "He's health is increasing which is a very good sign. I'll be back in a few hours to check on him again." she left the room.

"Do you want to talk about what happened? Victoria asked Lily, she looked at her and shrugged, "I don't know." Lily finally sat down, but her leg was still shaking anxiously. "Coke and heroin aren't a very good combination." David said seriously with a sigh. Lily looked up at him, "What?" She said softly, he looked at her confused, "You didn't know?" He asked concerningly, "Not about the heroin! You knew and you didn't think to stop him?" She accused, her blood beginning to boil, "I did, Lily! Jesus, I wouldn't encourage it." David was leaning forward now toward her. "Why didn't you tell me? This could have been avoided!" She shouted, "You're blaming me for this?!" He stood up and so did she. "Well if you told me, maybe!" She took a step forward, Victoria looked terrified. David started to laugh in disbelief, "I can't believe you're blaming me for what he did to himself." Lily scoffed, "I'm not blaming you! I'm just saying, he probably wouldn't be in the hospital right now if you told me that he was using drugs again." David rolled his eyes, "That wouldn't have avoided this situation. He has a drug problem, Lily. We both know that." David turned around and left the room. Victoria looked between the door and Lily, "I'll be right back, I'm going to check on him." Lily sighed, "Take your time." Victoria left the room and Lily stood beside the bed.
